Practice practice practice

Flash back to Mac telling the young lady, "you don't have to be good. You just have to be there. 🤷

It's freaking cold here:
Natural Perfection is my lifelong persuit.
My wife had no problem pointing out examples. 😉
Ok back to practice. My fingers are warm er now.
Natural shots .......hmmmm

When I tightened up:
Noticed Tyler Styer tighten up and Filler tortured him with 3 or 4 tester shots.
Got me thinking! Poops happen to me having a good time. I remember as a beginner at the Right Spot bar table 9 ball academy. Thinking, "I will be fine as soon as my hands quit shaking. " Figured out they were not going to stop until I did something good or maybe just ok to start. So mentally I am stepping to the plate thinking, bunt. Let's see what can I do with alligator arm? Shit bunts screwed up are the ugliest. Regrouping uh ok I would rather go down swinging.
Higher self now inserts: Turn it over to the ring finger. Table tennis taught me the power in the fingers. Marty Reisman is an interesting biography I loved.
Ooop drifting but it is of value.
Send self to the shot/table with. Well the given is

Final focus
Turn it over to the ring finger
Watching the tip penetrate the cute cue ball. Absolute awareness of the center of mass.
Starters for me must be center ball. With speed variation being my only control I look for doable not perfect. One successful tester leaving me confident enough to do it again if necessary.
Breath Deep.

Highlights of the bio on Marty include:
He did halftime shows with The Harlem Globetrotters. Part of the show was knocking a cigarette off the corner of the table.
He could play with the knife edge of the paddle.
He did hustle by holding the paddle like a hammer and get an outrageous spot as in 18 going to 21. It would always go hill/hill and his 3 points would be balls that hit the net and crawled over or deflect off the edge of the table. Kept that person hooked. Kind of like watching Cole work Harry with a one ball spot when The Z was spotting 10-6 and Allen Hopkins more. Allen gave Harry about 7 grand and had to go to Western Union. Cole slid in and score 25. Saturday until about noon Sunday. Rumor was they could have been working together. Pretty good payday either way.

Marty's reign ended with the advent of the soft rubber paddle. He mastered the sandpaper paddle. Oh boy the spin can make the ball do marvel things. Same with pool.

Repetition:
I have never been a fan of huge reps. Probably due to my weight lifting training. Body builder did huge reps. Real power seeking was what Coach McHargue led me to with 10-6-4 or similar sets. Adding weight at each step. When I could do 10 reps with the final set I added weight.
I have known a great Player that did huge reps on any shot missed. I won't do that. My main goal is to identify why I missed. File that information then put it behind me. For me high reps would be a form of abuse induced by self .

High run in practice doesn't carry a lot of weight with me. I think it's useful to familiarity with my ability to interject tension.....then deal with it!
I have found I can eclipse practice records in competition if I can "Keep My Mind Right". Kind of like Cool Hand Luke.
Cool Hand Luke, got my mind right now Boss. Perhaps needs a sensitivity warning.

Geometry:
Brag alert. IMHO knowledge of geometry is basic to the game. Ok on to the story.
At Trinity High my geometry teacher had competed at The Olympics in ice skating. We loved Mr O'Cock's stories. He taught my mother in highschool as well. They called him, O'Cockie Robert. So as a sophomore in my geometry class was the senior football star. I called him The Boy Wonder. He did everything outstanding..well except ride a bull. He was 6'1 210 pounds tailback that was looking forward to a full scholarship to Colorado. At least he knew better than to mess with the buffalo. My fellow cadets didn't and as a prank stole the buffalo the night before our home game with them. They called them and asked to give it back as they had managed to get him into a U-Haul trailer. The plan was to parade him around the field as Colorado did for games. Their handlers had a harness he wore that attached 10 men to leashes. He still drug them after they had drugged him. Ok so when Boy Wonder broke a big run against USAFA I was required by honor to leap up and cheer in the middle of the cadet section. As he was a personal friend. How he became my personal friend is the geometry connection. He had not passed geometry and it was a graduation requirement. Mr O'Cock seated him next to me. Not sure how but I was aware that during testing it was good for me to sit back as to give Boy Wonder a glance at my answers. My bonus was the stories he told me that well we're along the Peyton Place lines regarding mature ladies. As a sophomore it was awesome.

Focus:
Just saw a headline on Judd Trump, regarding the difficulty getting it up for weaker players.......YEP!
The joy of the battle on the table is my addiction/affliction.
Training to fight (on the table) is similar to....... well I have a lot of good sports training and a couple uh maybe a few hands on skirmish ok fights. Never perfect but prevailing in the Serious Shit. Learning each time. If I bring that I kind of focus to the pool table. Well my percentage uh or Fargo would be uh very high. The table seems the perfect retirement hobby. I still pay for lessons. I do charge for them as well. $50/hr seems a bargain.😉

"On the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds, that on later days and later fields will bear the fruits of victory. "
Is one of my favorite quotes. Part of the training 😉
The most enjoyable part of the National event in Vegas was when the young couple called foul on themselves. I was proud for them and hope to see pool played with honor. Felt a little guilty winning but they learned a little from us and were already doing the important part right. 👍

It's just a little cold here this morning. I post stand in front of heater to warm fingers then back to the morning stretch and flex on the table.
Story time:
Probably a recap but. I loved it when the big Samoan got into our 3 handed $10 ring game. He racked for me and made a big show of uh projecting intimidation. I broke and ran 4, just to see if he thought he scared me.🤷

I think Jason Kruger moved to Kingman. Solid player and a good dude.
Cool, I once had a sparing partner, on the East side of Seattle. We hooked it up cheap every Tuesday after the tournament till close. It could take a 10 game swing. I won in the 60-70% range. Then a year later I see where he got 7-8 in the Reno Sands pro 9 ball event. Things that make me say, ......Hmmmmmm.?

Study study study:
OMG the art I witnessed by signing on to Matchroom for the month. Just to watch Ronnie performance. The commentary by world champion makes the art even more enjoyable.
Ronnie goes in the neighborhood of 20' and 3 or 4 cushions, through a full table. For millimeter shape on the black. After a few micro speed missed Steven Hendry remarks, "he is struggling with the speed." The level he plays to is beautiful to watch.
The replay of highlights on YouTube doesn't compare. Hopefully the match can be reviewed. So much to learn studying with input from the Champions.

Ships log:
Still cold here. Need to warm the fingers
My must common mistake is.......drum roll.
Striking at the cue ball rather than through it. The statistics indicate that is my most common deduction, as I am walking from the table. That comes right after, WHAT? I thought I was There.

Probably what object ball last made sure of, I was striking through the ball.
Note to self:
I need to bring the accuracy of striking the cue ball that I can achieve by observation.(as Yogi taught). With the final thought of ??????. Through the ball!
