Practicing pool

I know there is a million different ways to practice pool. I'm sure I could do a some research and come up with my own system (and wonder what important bits I'm missing), but I'm sure something exists so I don't have to. What I'm looking for:

I'd like to take something to the table (probably a spiral bound book) that has an objective, structured practice system. The drills should cover all the facets of pool that are important to become a top player. I imagine this would cover shot making, position play, kicks, banks, safety play, jump shots, etc. The system needs to be efficient, complete, and easy to chart and track your progress. I can go to the pool table each day, know exactly what things I'm going to work on, how I've been progressing and where I stand to reach my goals.

Anything out there like that you would recommend?

My best advise to you ( i apologize if i am under estimating your knowledge), learn how to pocket every ball with soft, medium, and fast speed, with all kind of english, stun, role, role with back and forward spin, and left, right, all. Start with 1/8th tip english to about a tip all directions, also start with OB and CB a 1/2 diamond a part, and a diamond away from pocket, increase distance by a diamond, and distance between CB and OB by 1/2 diamonds, focus on making balls, as well as where cue go. Once you master that (that is a lot) if you miss repeat shot 3 times and know exactly why you miss (elevation, swerve, throw..) would be best if you have loose grip and wrist, follow through every shot, start playing racks of nine ball with ball in hand 1st shot, i will be highly surprised if you did not run racks then, then move on to banks, kicks..you name it. Good luck.

Capelle has a spiral bound book, I know there is the one pocket books in spiral bound that is great for practice (I think Nick Varner).

It's real simple

You use your brain and work on whatever you are weak on until it is no longer a weak point in your game.

Here's a little exercise that is fun to do. Put a ball on the middle diamond on each rail. Now take the cue ball in the kitchen, and make all of the balls without touching any of the other balls. When you can do this 4 out of 5 times, then you

Put balls at the 1st and 3rd diamonds on each rail, and run the balls without touching any other ball. When you do this 4 out of 5 times, then you

Put balls on each diamond of each rail, and try to run all of the balls without touching or hitting any other ball on the rails 4 out of 5 times.

It's kind of fun to do, and teaches you some about cue ball control, and getting position. Remember though, if you miss a ball, you have to start over again.

The "Video Encyclopedia of Pool Practice (VEPP)" is pretty much exactly what you have described, except it is in video format instead of a book (although, the VEPP online resource page provides many handouts to help with shot setup and record keeping).

Dr Dave has some or all of that. Buy the CDs, draw your own layouts in a spiral book & sell'em...

If somebody can make Southwest Cues for $89, you can do a paperback of Dr Dave's stuff & sell em for $10, then you can make $5 BreakRAKs

Duh.... ask yourself this. Does Dr Dave have less patience than Charley Bond or Southwest cues..?
