Practicing Safeties

safetys

kick shots are everybody's weakness. you probably don't want to kick at a ball your trying to safe up anyway. i'm sure you meant kicking out of a safety. take some time examining the diamonds. they're there and its pretty simple math. most of the players below tour level don't pay any attention for some reason.

A friend of mine and I play 9ball... Just not using the normal rules.....

1)A safety resulting in ball in hand wins you a quarter...
2)If you use the jump cue it costs you 50 cents if you still foul.
3)Scratching on the break of course costs a quarter.
4)Winning the game by sinking the 9 or getting your opponent on 3 fouls in a row wins a quarter.

We both start the session by going to the front desk and buying a roll of quarters and then playing until one of us runs out of quarters. It's a nice break from the standard rules and the quarters are a way to keep track easily....

I love it when he is standing there with his pockets turned out going "I'm bust!"

I have been practicing safeties lately and have found improvement by just throwing two balls and the cue ball on the table. I practice playing the cue ball off one and trying to get the cue ball behind the other. It has helped me to see safeties better. Good Luck

Safeties

I came up with a game to practice 'open table' safeties. I call it Sell Out.
You start with just 9ball on the foot spot and the cue ball near the head spot but just a little back towards the rail.

The first person to make the 9ball wins so you can't sell out. We usually play for .25 a game.
You get pretty good pretty fast at leaving the 9ball safe on an open table.
