While the nose on this one is BEM and not straight grained, here is an example of one that Jeff recently completed for me:
I should note that I specifically requested a piece of tulip that was more straighter grained and darker, with less swirls. I cannot attest to what they may, or may not, have left in stock, of the longer length required for a full splice blank.
The tulip is considered a 'premium' exotic...which means it gets the same upcharge as the ebony and BEM/Curly...which is $40.00. With a straight grain maple nose, it should run in the $280.00 range. Since you have found the Prather website, go to their Veneers page to see the available colors to choose from, or I am sure that Jeff will have a few suggestions.
The folks @ Prather are very nice and super helpful. I would urge you to give them a call @ 1-800-364-6913 and ask for Jeff...he will guide you through the process, and tell you what he has available.
The above pic is my 2nd blank from Prather. I have been quite happy with the quality of build in both blanks, as well as the quality of the woods selected. The first blank turned into a very nice looking, and outstanding playing cue. I have every confidence that this one will as well, and can hardly wait for it to be completed.
