Pre-Flag Master

I have a box of 72 cubes of pre-flag Master that I bought from a cue-repairman this evening. I wanted just a box of 12 but I saw these without the flag so I bought them. I'm questioning if this is the sought-after pre-flag or not. The holes are hardly drilled and some are nearly flat.

Can anyone please enlighten me?? Thanks!

I am pretty sure that chalk is the later stuff after the formula change. Before teh formula change they had deep grooves in the top.

cueman...I know people will argue this to death...but there is NO difference, and no formula change. This comes straight from the president of Tweeten, Skip Nemecek. The flag was added as a patriotic move only, to support U.S. soldiers in the Middle East.

Jeff...I hope you didn't pay too much for your 1/2 gross of chalk. It's worth about $10 brand new.

I paid what "retail" would be around here, which is $20.00. Before I bought it I looked up online what it would be for a gross, and it was right around $20, plus shipping. But the simple question remains of what would I do with 144 pieces of chalk....besides leave a cube on each table I play? (Which is a habit I've broke months ago.)

At any rate, I've only been shooting for four years and I've ALways used Master Green. I couldn't tell you the difference between the green Master I used four years ago versus the green Master I would have used 30 years ago because I wasn't even born. It was just hands-down cleaner, so I used it. I will say this, though, the blue sticks better. I'm happy to switch. For what it's worth, I use a Kamui Black Hard.

I used to say the same thing, but I did a google search for 'lead in chalk' and found out that in the '90's there was a bunch of kid's sidewalk chalk that contained enormous amounts of lead.

Of course, most of the links led back to ...forums.azbilliards.com/....

I posted a link to a lead-testing kit on a similar thread. If I can get someone to send me a piece of actual prehistoric pre-flag masters, I would love to test it.

Also, I'm always leery of high-ranking company officials.
