Pred Ikon Wrap

I've been asked to put a linen wrap on a leather wrapped Ikon cue. Before I get myself into a bunch of trouble I wondered if any had done this before. My concern is that the leather is thicker than 25 thou and I will have to build up the wrap area. Any help would be appreciated.
 
I recently had a Pred Titlist in for a rewrap. When I pulled the leather off I knew I was in trouble. My leather is .022-.024 thickness range. The leather I took off was .039"! It took about 2 hours labor and good deal of cyano and accelerator to build the channel up and reface the channel ends. The wrap length was nearly problematic as well, at about 13-5/8+". This was a lesson learned. In the future I'm going to have several pieces of leather split thicker to deal with deeper wrap channels of Pred and older cues.

Tiger sells a thicker stack leather for these,also i did a breask 2 and the wrap groove was longer than most cues,had to search hard to find one long enough

Thanks for your answers. I guess no one has put a linen wrap on an Ikon.

Well I bit the bullet and told him I would do the wrap but expect to pay about double if the grove was deeper. The grove is 50/1000 so I will have to build it up.

that aint sh1t. i did a poison cue and when i took the leather off it was .065 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
 
the quickest easiest way to build up a wrap groove is to just install a linen wrap in the existing groove. It will build it up a good .025", is quick and simple and doesn't cost much.

Building up with glues would be really time consuming!

Now you tell me. I decided that I could do it with a few coats of finish. I have probably put a dozen on and still have a few to go. I agree, your suggestion makes more sense than what I am doing.
 
Ive heard other repair men doing it. I just havent had the balls to try it yet... I think joe blackburn is the original guy to tell me this about 5 years ago or so. Im just scared to send anything less then perfect out. And with epoxy or ca i know what i got. U know....

I understand what you mean Dave. Joe was the one who told me about it too.

The only thing is that the linen provides an even thickness buildup where as if I just epoxy it, i worry about it being thicker in one place than another. I always end up filling the linen with epoxy anyway, so I get a good solid surface after the build up, but it's easier to keep the build even.

Its crazy the things we come up with working on cues!
