Predator 1080 Chalk Reviews...

I use Blue Diamond and I love it.

I have been tempted to give Balabuska a try..........anyone ever use that one?

I can't understand these reviews. I bought a sleeve to try and find blue diamond to be way better. Actually I found i was miscueing more than with master chalk. Would never buy again.

Revised:
I have since given Magic Chalk a try. I find it much smoother than even Blue Diamond. Its great!

I think quality control might be a bit poor.

Seems that even within a single sleeve of 1080 you can get a "bad one". Still, last time I bought five and they all turned out to do the job well, so I'm going to take the gamble again...

The one I had was very powdery, left silt and I miscued more in 10 minutes of use then I have in 6 months. I gave the piece to a friend and he like it. Go figure.

Strangely enough my results were pretty much the opposite of the previous poster

I have a kamui medium black and like the Predator better than the blue diamond...requires more chalking than the kamui....but works just as well in my eyes...

It also doesn't require some special package or tupperware to store it in...

(Yeah I am pretty bitter over the two cubes of kamui which were cracked and splitting when I opened the package)

just get a hold of John Bertone, I'm sure there is something he can do about the Kamui Chalk issue

try it and figure out how it works for you. My primary chalk was World Legend (same manufacturer as Blue Diamond but I liked the grit better), then I added Balabushka Performance, then came Predator and the cubes I use are Predator and World Legend. Not because Balabushka is bad but it either doesn't go along with my current tip or simply suffered from low-moisture environment. I noticed I miscued sometimes with it, as opposed to other two. With Predator I can even get lazy and miss chalking routine a couple of shots ;)
At tournament play I use Predator now. Good quality for a great price.

I got a piece of the Predator 1080 from a buddy and to me it doesn't seem any different than Masters. My miscues didn't go down at all and I find myself getting frustrated at my tip more often than I should. Used it for a couple weeks and probably wouldn't buy again. I would like to try blue diamond or kamui to give a solid review though.

Balabushka is good chalk.

In order or "grittiness" to me, of the ones that I used:

Masters - Predator (almost a tie there), Balabushka - Blue Diamond (also close to each other), Magic Chalk.

The softer chalks have a better feel to them when chalking and go on smoother. After using the smooth chalks, when I use Masters it feels and sounds to me like I'm sanding my tip instead of chalking it :)

I spoke to the local Kamui rep whose first question was how i was storing it.

When I told him in the little bag then where was I storing it and so on and so on....

Shortly thereafter Kamui changed the formula and posted this announcement
http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.php?storynum=10044

Offering to replace unopened pieces but basically any open piece you were out of luck.

This was EXACTLY the problem I brought up. Exactly the symptoms my chalk suffered. I was given the impression that the chalk doing this was a failure on my part either in storage or transportation or whatever.

I honestly thought Kamui's new product to be released at the Expo was going to be a small tupperware storage type device. In which case I might have reconsidered my stance on Kamui chalk. It's not. Do not get me wrong. I think the chalk is excellent. I however do not have 30-60 bucks to throw away and so until i use up the broken cracked pieces I have I will not be buying anymore. As it is broken and cracked I rarely use it so...

I recently found an online store on ebay, billiardsheaven? maybe. I don't remember exactly but they offer a sample pack of chalk for like 10 dollars that has one of each of the 5 major brands. Predator 1080, blue diamond, balabushka and I forget the others as I have not used them yet.

It seems to me like predators chalk is okay but it didn't stick to the tip on my break cue very well even after a light scuffing it just wasn't adhering. ( I use a McDermott Stinger with a synthetic tip) As far as on my play cue it seemed to be nothing special.

The blue diamond went on effortlessly on both cues and even helped me to control the break a little better which from my experience is a little touch and go using a phenolic tip.

Balabushka is somewhere inbetween, I did notice that it stuck to my break cue better than the predator chalk but not quite as good as blue diamond.
however, balabushka seemed to stick to the tip longer. If you ask me I think Balabushka and blue diamond need to have a love child together that doesn't cost 30 dollars a cube and all would be right in the world.
