It looks like I'll have to replace both because our local leagues are going the way of the acs and bca and banning the tips. What would you guys suggest as a tip replacement? I'm not even sure if the sir predator tip can be replaced?

i feel the same way.. i'm kinda bothered by it in reality.. cuz the way i feel a cue is a cue.. and i know the tips make a lot of difference but should it really become a rule?? it may be a lil bit of a advantage, but i feel i shouldn't be banned though.. Thats the point of pool.. why take it away..

They're banning the tips because the tips are harder than the cue ball. What happens is the cue ball gets hair line cracks in them and wear out much faster than normal. I have a measle ball at home and can see a bunch of marks on it. It doesn't affect play at all but if i kept using a break cue with a phenolic tip on it then eventually it would shatter. My break isn't that powerful either (23mph max) so I can imagine the people breaking at 30mph would be doing much more damage to the cue ball.

Edit: Go with a Samsara break jump tip, It's almost as hard as phenolic but it's still all leather. In my opinion it's the best tip for breaking.

The BCAPL rules don't ban phenolic tips on jump cues, just the break cues. Jump cues are light enough and you just don't get enough force with them to damage the cue balls like the break cues do.

As for the Break cue, you should try the Samsara break tip. We use them on all our break shafts and cues. They are fantastic!
