Ok, hello everyone.. first post here, probably not the last

good friend of mine told me i needed to upgrade my shaft.. said he had a Predator to give me, but wasnt sure if it'd fit.. well, it doesnt

Should i have this rejointed? What kind of joint is this? (has a Schon joint protector).. lady at the billiard shop said it looked custom but she wasnt sure and told me to contact Predator

after a quick google search, thats what it looks like to me... now for my main question.. can it be rejointed without ruining the structural integrity of the shaft? i have a 3/8 x 10 joint

Yes you can Bud.

A fairly simple job and shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg.

A repairman will bore it out and put a plug in it for you. Depending on the repairman's preference in doing it, a plug might consist of maple, purple heart
or a phenolic insert.

The plug will then be drilled, bored and tapped for a 3/8ths x 10 pin.

It appears to have a piloted phenolic plug in it as it sits.

With a 3/8ths x 10, I take it that it will be a wood to wood joint so the pilot
that is now on the shaft will be faced off.

Pred shafts are pretty much .840 so if that is what the diameter is on your butt or very close, then you are A OK.

If your Buddy gave that to you, then he is a good Buddy.

ok, cool.. i suppose i should talk to the guy at the billiard shop, he seems more knowledgeable anyways . i sent and email to Predator just to be safe, waiting to see what they say

any idea of what something like this would cost?

Do YOU think you need to upgrade your shaft? If you have a regular shaft, and are going to switch to a Predator, expect to miss for a while with any shots using more than 1/4 tip of sidespin.

I think Mike Webb charged $40 or $50 to put in a new thread for me, so should be around that from any good repair person.

Whoever does the work would probably want to have the butt of the cue as well to make sure it matches even.

Try posting this in the Ask the Cuemaker section also, you could get some good advice there and probably a name to go to if you post your location.

thanks for the advise...its fine if i miss shots at first, its the end of the session(bca) next week so i have a couple months off to practice with it at home before we start playing again.. if there is a chance it will better my game, i'm going to try it
