Predator butt and Shaft???

I picked up a retired Predator cue (model 314-4) at a pawn shop today and the shaft doesn't have the 314 logo by the joint.

Is this an aftermarket shaft or did older or any Predator Cues come with shafts that were not labeled?

Is the butt worth anything?

There were a few 314 shafts I have seen without the 314 logo. Some were 12 piece, or six piece shafts instead of the ten piece pie Predator finally settled upon. Can you take some actual pics of the cue and shaft and list them in the cue gallery??

Is the ferrule the short style 3/4" or is it a full 1"? The butt is worth something especially if it is says First Edition printed under the Predator Logo. Without seeing the cue or pics its anyone's guess to the value. The butt alone at 70% is probably worth $200-250. If the shaft is original and not beat to death depending on the number of pie pieces it contains could substantially increase the cue's value. More than likely your chances are the cue's condition is less than 70% and in need of a refinish since you found it at a pawn shop.

Hope this helps,
John

More pics

I've attached more pictures and i'm actually not sure if it's model 314-4. It might be model CC5. Any help would be great.

The ferrel is 1".

I'm interested in the butt. My son wants a Predator and I'd like to get him a "banger". Then when he gets better, I can have it refinished for him.

It does noe appear to be a Predator shaft to me. I don't see and wood splices. Butt looks fine, though. Does it roll straight?

Predator shaft

It rolls straight and plays good but i've never actually hit with a predator shaft so I don't know what to expect. I also can't tell by looking if it's pieced together. There are some wood grain butterfly designs in the wood on both sides. I'll try to take a picture of what i'm talking about.

Pics of the shaft again...

The shaft appears to be in 2 pieces. Does anyone agree?

Predator never made a 2 piece shaft did they? :(

I sold a cue identical to this one with a non pred shaft 3 yrs. ago at DCC. to a player from Kentucky. Did you pick this cue up in Kentucky? It was a nice cue.

Looks like a normal 1-piece shaft to me. If you mean it has two "spines" (short curved lines along the length of the shaft) on opposite sides of the shaft, that's normal.

I don't believe the butt is a CC-5, that one came with a radial pin. Yours is the earlier model 314-4 with a 5/16-14 pin. IMHO the shaft is not a Predator shaft with splices (looks like a Joss??). The ferrule looks like someone changed it along the way with the glue line being as thick as it is.

As I suspected in my first reply without seeing pictures the finish is very rough, chipped, and nicked up, and you have a butt in less than 70% condition. It's value is what ever the market will bring especially with out the original Predator shaft sorry to say. That doesn't mean it is worthless. Just remember condition on a production cue makes up a good piece of its value.

Hope this helps,
John
