Recently I've started having a small problem with my predator ferrule. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced it. Hopefully I can describe it well enough. I tried to take pictures but I only have a cell phone camera. You couldn't see anything in them.
Anyways, what's happening. It looks like someone is taking a potato peeler and shaving slices off my ferrule. You can actually feel the flat part with your finger. Apparently, my ferrule is having slices melted off of it.
I've been using Predator shafts for about 3 or 4 years. This is my second (the first had the ferrule melted off during a tip replacement). But this problem has only started recently, maybe a couple months ago.
Finally, I learned why this is happening. I use a pendulum stroke, and my tip finishes on the table. Sometimes I practice on a 3 cushion table, which has sort of a rougher, but not nappy, cloth (it plays fast, but almost feels like sandpaper if you run your finger over it). Apparently this cloth is what has been melting slices off of my ferrule!
I knew how soft these ferrules are from when my first one melted. But did anyone realize they were this soft? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not too worried about it. I don't care if my ferrule or shaft are filthy or nicked. Just curious.
