Predator Seconds, OK for quality?

I could have sworn I have seen another post on here about these "seconds", can't find it now.

Are these seconds as in they were scuffed or discolored or is the construction in some way compromised? Looking for a cheap Predator shaft to get to my 11yr old son as a gift to use along with my old Joss ,these may suit the bill unless they are liable to split open or something.

I know someone who uses one.

No diff in terms of hit, feel, whatsoever. The only diff is there is a line cut round the shaft near the joint.

I remembered it was a lot cheaper when i first saw them and thought they were value for money as long as you do not mind that line thing.

Joss is a 5/16-14 joint?

predator seconds are fine,,,,

when the factory was in canada a predator second was marked with a thin black band just above the logo, this means the shaft had sugar marks or some other blemish and wasn't perfect aesthetically,,, today a predator second is a first.......:o

I am sure there are many reasons why one of their items might not be considered acceptable as full-quality.

Could be blemish, might even be structural.

Ya rolls the dice...

idk i was told predator seconds where just good as firsts. predator destroys the ones that are not sound, or able to play like a first. i dont think they would sell anything that would put a mark on there image. so only cosmetic i was told...only my two cents!!

Yes 5/16-14.

Thanks for the replies all, I may go with this for my son then.

you are correct! only cosmetic... no rolling of dice

Anyone on here have these for sale? Would rather send my business to this group than to ebay. I have one used Predator for offer already, but may go with one of these seconds.

I see a 314 cat logo, so I wonder if Predator will honor their warranty?

Another way to get Predator cheaply, is to wait for model changes. When the 314-2 came out, a flood of 314-1 were listed on ebay for $150. Seyberts recently had a sale on their Predator sneaky petes for $275, probably to clear out inventory for the new model.

I was looking at the Predator sneakies also, but it's still another $100 for that, and I already have a very nice Joss Limited butt to use with it. My son also likes a wrap on the cue. He just has his heart set on a Predator shaft, he sees a few people in his league use them and equates it to "good shooter stick".

For 159 plus 10 shipping? Why pay that when you can buy used pred ob tiger shafts all day long for 125-150

Tried that, had one reply. And don't have to worry about replacing a tip for another $20 if the used one is worn down, dings, rings matching, etc...

This is not for me, I like a regular shaft, my son is set on a Predator though. I don't like the feel of the LD shafts, except the OB, but with that I could not make a ball after an hour of playing with one.

Glad I opened and read this thread!!!

I was going through my cue collection last night and I have what I think is a really old Pred 314 with a Scrhager cue. It does have the thin indented ring near the joint.

I was wondering why it was like this because I have other older Pred 314's that don't have the ring.

Thanks for clearing this up for me!

Russ.....
