Predator Shaft Query

Sorry - In progress
The only change was that the shaft was actually a BKIII

Thanks Bro -
I appreciate you asking for the pictures.
I found the evidence that I was looking for:

I have the proof that the vault plate “and” silencer pad was present on the original shaft. It’s entirely possible that when I ordered the cue, the stock phenolic tip (my request) was replaced by a Samsera break tip. I still believe that the original cue tech didn’t know what he was doing, and mistakenly took too much material off.

RESOLVED!
I watched Lil’Chris replace a BKIII tip video. He had the original tip, which got blown off after several years of play. He took a fraction off the vault plate surface, prepped and installed a Taom tip over the vault plate. It doesn’t appear that a silencer pad was present.

As promised, I’ve attached the pics.

Edit: I found this on Seybert’s website:
“The Predator BK3 shaft features a V-Tek tip silencer.”
This will never end -
So I didn't think the wood predator break shaft had a vault plate. With the revo, I thought the part they call the vault plate is a replacement for a traditional ferrule, more like a plug ferrule. The pad on top of that I think they call a silencer pad. Not a cue maker and could be proved wrong though.

Could it be that you keep mentioning vault plate to your repair people and they don't think it's worth correcting you?

That’s it - They’re certain that something was there prior to the removal/cleanup. The cue tech brought it out and asked if I’d put a pad on the shaft.
The BKIII(3) was an advanced predecessor to the Revo, having a similar design and style. The BKII did not have that technology. The reason I added a picture of the shaft is to clearly validate the cushion and vault plate. All of the Predator break cues have the same or similar configuration.

I’d asked the cue repair shop if they worked on Predator cue repair. I was told YES. I really shouldn’t be going down a rabbit hole about who was better equipped to fix my cue. All I’m expecting is to replace what had been erroneously removed. I’m getting educated about cue technology, and people who telling me that it doesn’t matter are misinformed.

I think what you're missing is that if you have a wood shaft, I don't think there is a vault plate, just pads. You have a ferrule.

Did you read the Predator Q&A page? The BKIII is a wood shaft that has a carbon fiber component. The pad which sat atop the ferrule was a carbon fiber plate. The configuration was updated when the all CF Revo shaft debuted. The information I was specific to the BKIII and not the Rush and Revo models.

You have to read the Predator info link. This is “not” a wooden shaft with a pad. Let’s align our comments based on the correct shaft.
I apologize but we keep calling the BKII a wooden shaft. It’s that and more.

Here's the AI description of predator's vault plage.
"a specialized "T"-shaped insert component in Predator REVO carbon fiber pool cue shafts that acts as the anchor point for the cue tip, acting similarly to a traditional ferrule but designed specifically for hollow, ferrule-less carbon fiber construction."

You’re reading the wrong thread. Revo changed the configuration to a T bridge.

This is the correct reference article:

So where in that write up does it say vault plate?

Yes you are correct in that it’s a carbon fiber plate. Also, it’s referred to as the”tip silencer.”
So - The Lil’Chris video was correct, and that there’s no secondary pad. I’ll refrain from saying that it’s a vault plate. Thanks for clearing that up.

Going back to the original question, if the cue tech was knowledgeable, and saw the carbon fiber plate, was he justified in asking if I wanted it removed? Predator give this an explicit NO. If he took the shaft down to the ferrule, wouldn’t the integrity of the ferrule have diminished,

I’m thankful that you cleared up the vault plate misunderstanding.

Actually there is no such thing as a carbon fiber plate when you have a ferrule, it's a pad, could be carbon, could be fiber, could be another material, but not a plate. I don't see anywhere where dendweller agreed you have a carbon fiber plate. You keep confusing words although I think you have a better understanding than before now.
As to your other question, if the carbon fiber pad wasn't damaged I would see no reason to remove it, you may end up cutting a couple thousandths into it when cutting the tip off but that would be it. If it was damaged and he felt it needed to be removed, he should have put a new one on before putting the tip on. Listening to you describe things, if I were the repair person, the only thing I would have asked you was what tip you wanted.

I apologized for using the term “plate”, when the correct reference should have been “pad.”
The Lil’Chris video actually changing a tip sold me. My point is this: The cue tech didn’t recognize, or didn’t believe that the pad belonged on the shaft. The last comment was not needed.

Not to drag this thread on because it's getting boring BUT
