Predator Z3 wobble

Hi all,

Today I received a 30" Predator Z3 shaft that I ordered online. The shaft rolls straight by itself, however it has a mild wobble towards the tip when rolled attached to the butt. The ferrule and tip stays in contact with the table while doing the roll test. The cue butt rolls straight.

I have another shaft, its a 29" Z2 that rolls perfectly by itself or attached to the same cue butt.

Im not sure what to do. I dont think I should return the shaft because it does roll perfectly on its own. Not sure if the slight wobble is typical with longer shafts with small diameter? Maybe it has something to do with the conical taper of Predator Z shafts? I would appreciate any input to this issue that I have. Thanks in advance. :)

Slight problem with the joint of the new shaft I would guess. If you take it to a repair guy and have him take a couple of 100ths off the joint that may fix the issue (and void your warrantee), but that's just a guess

This will have no affect on the cue, but if you want to return it and roll the dice that the replacement would fit better, up to you.

If you want the shaft to match the butt, you need to send in the butt to whoever you get the shaft from to be fitted.

Are you sure it's not the usual "Predator roll"?
I'd wait for any other responses, and if the wobble is so slight, just make sure it's something that you absolutely cannot live with.
There are several other threads that discuss what a horrible time people have had trying to deal with Predator customer service and trying to get them to honor warrantees. Personally I've always found Predator customer service to be fine, but I have heard horror stories

If both parts roll straight independently but not when attached
it's the joint.
Have a cue maker take a look and he will straighten it up for you.
Should be no biggie.

I currently have three Predator shafts, have had many more,
and none have had a "roll" in them.
They've all been perfectly straight.
Matter of fact that's one reason I gave up on the OB's.

"Low Deflection Shafts - What's Your Opinion???"

My opinion is that they suck!
I hate the damn things.
With the constant new models coming out you have to be adjusting
your shot all the time.
Just get a traditional shaft, use it, learn it, and you're done.
Plus you can get any cue out there and enjoy the cue and how different
they all feel.
Besides that I think LD's are the biggest scams to hit the pool market...EVER

I thought you 'hated the damn things'? :grin-square:

I do.
I hate LD's and never use them.

However I couldn't say I hated them if I hadn't at some point used them.

I have several LD shafts and never use them.

If I didn't have any then my opinion on them would hardly matter, now would it?

Some people talk out of both sides of their mouth. That was pretty funny Chuck.

Dude, I do hate them.

What does that have to do with the fact that I have some Predator shafts in my closet?

I have used just about every LD shaft out there.

If I hadn't used any then me mouthing off how much I hate them
wouldn't matter much......

Instead I have used them, some I used for years in the early 2000's.

Yes, I H.A.T.E LD shafts.
That doesn't mean I don't have any, or that I've only played them using friend's cues.
No, I've spent thousands on LD shafts and as I said above I have played just about every LD on the market.

And I can unequivocally say that I hate the damn things.

Geeezzzz........it's like the LD shaft police is out there trying to get me........lol

I played with a Z2 for almost 6 years. I understand your hate for them compared to standard maple shafts. Don't take this stuff too serious. Life is too short for all of that.

I will follow your advice.

I just have a real pet-peeve for being wrongfully accused of something
so it always rubs me the wrong way....lol

I am a GM in chess and literally play chess for hours - every day -
and was recently accused of cheating in a tournament.

It just about tore my head into pieces. Turned out after an
elaborate investigation that the guy who accused me was using
an engine in his cell phone to look up moves so he was banned from all
tournament play by the USCF for 5 years.

Point of the story, it took everything I have in me not to explode right there
on the spot. Just blow up into little pieces......lol

Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for the diagnosis guys. Seems like this is a joint-facing issue. No wobbling noted when the cue is not tightened completely. Ive already contacted the online store I got it from. Thanks again.

Shaft needs to be faced by a cuemaker. Whether or not you return it depends on who you got it from.

I didn't read all the responces. Sounds like a simple facing problem. Easy to fix. If correcting that voids their so called warranty. Then the cop out clause is in full swing. The worst would be if there is an insert not straight or drilled at tapped crooked but that is so rare, it's not even a percentage.
