Premier League Pool: a LOT of equal talent

My takeaway from watching the Premier League Pool streaming is that there is not a player that is head-and-shoulders above any other player. The talent seems to be fairly equal. It is of my opinion that some of the players that have been held in high esteem of late have come down to earth and are playing no better than any other of the top pros.

Who has been watching and what are your opinions of the league/tournament overall?

That’s true but there were some players that were knees and toes below the other players.

of course travel is a factor too, i think yapp, omar, kaci, kazakis etc basically just flew from the predator wisconsin tournament to milton keynes and played the next day

Lechner was diappointing and far behind his ability, had some bad rolls too. In my opinion, Kaci has problems in his game since way before the last MC, where he already played pretty bad in doubles (for top player standard). It seems he heavily relies on his talent alone and doesn't put in the work he should to be competing with the top. Does anyone know why Fortunski was invited to this event? In my opinion a second woman would have been great to watch.

I've watched quite a bit & have really enjoyed it. I like the short races in the early rounds b/c sometimes I don't have 90+ mins to watch a match. I also like everyone playing each other. I think Kaci is certainly worth inclusion. Didn't he just win the world 10 Ball last year? Can't speak for Fortunski, this is actually the 1st time I've seen him play, but yesterday I watched him beat Jayson Shaw pretty handily.

Wonder what happened with Kaci. Was the shot clock too much for him or is there more to the story. I didn’t happen to catch any of his matches but OUCH!
I think there is more to the story. Emily Frazer was joking with him early on on Facebook about his spending half his time in bed. Maybe, one way or another, he is just out of sorts.

I'm not inclined to agree with the premise of this thread, although there is no denying that at the top, everyone can beat everyone.

Still, the bigger picture is that many are good enough to CONTEND for the biggest titles in nine-ball against the most elite fields (the PLP has seven of the world's best eleven players based on Fargo rate) but few are good enough to WIN those titles. In the late stages of tournaments featuring so many of the elite, it is nearly always one of the superelite that gets to the finish line.

I think the few who are able to capture the toughest titles in nine-ball are, indeed, HEAD AND SHOULERS above the rest.

Small margins make a huge difference over time.

Adapted from a previous post of mine:

Kaci is a great player, but he has done little to back up his impressive win at the World 10-ball last summer. Since then, he has a) failed to reach Stage 2 at the US Open 9-ball in September, finishing tied for 25th, b) skipped the International Open in October, c) looked shaky at the 2021 Mosconi Cup in December, and d) skipped the Derby City Classic in January. He may well return to form very soon, but how can anyone be surprised, given his track record and skipped events of late, that he wasn't one of the contenders in the star-studded Matchroom PLP event?

Hope to see him playing well soon.

Good to see Sky in the 800's, too bad Bergman turned into a homebody, he should've been next to that level I think.

Yeah, what did happen to Bergman? One day he seemed like he was #3 among all American players, and the next day he's not even on the radar.

All i've seen is the bits-n-pieces you get on FB/YT. Not paying a quarter for DAZN. The grey rug and the hideous balls are a joke.

Anyone know the reason? The last time I remember anyone burning out like this at that young an age was Michael Coltrain.
He's been playing since he was about 9-10. Not burnout. He just knows the economic realities of the game. Tough gig and not a lot of pay after expenses.

He does things his own way, fair play to him. Comes across as a bit of an odd-bod. Great talent, and for us it's a shame he doesn't play more.

Wait, you mean he doesn't want to wind up living out of his car at the age of 50? What kind of a pool player is that? ;)
