Hi Robley,

some of advanced drills i really like- all about using best angles, correct speed and position-play.

CueTable Help

1st table:
Ball in Hand- you have to play he balls in numerous sequence (1,2,3,4 and so on).- both corner pockets allowed. Kind of a warm up drill.

2nd table:
Same setup- again in numerous sequence- cb middle of the table- 1,3,5,7 into the left corner pocket (foot rail)- 2,4,6,8 right corner pocket head rail. Pocket the balls and let the cueball *roll* over 2 cushions for position to play the next ball- each ball should be played same way using 2 rails for position to the next ball

3nd table:
ball in hand on start- again play the balls in numerous sequence- the stripe-balls in the middle of the table are not allowed to be touched.

Have fun :)

Each drill has to be played 3 times in a row perfectly before you go to the next one.

lg from overseas,

Ingo

How about this two-step program: find out what you have trouble with and then work on specific drills for your problem areas.

You can find out what your problem areas are by playing progressive nine ball. You start by guessing how many balls you can run off the table 50% of the time, say 6. Break, remove all but the 6 highest balls, and see if you can run out. This is also called "playing the 6-ball ghost." The ghost wins the rack if you fail to run out. Play the ghost a race to 4. If you beat him, move on to the 7-ball ghost. If you lose, drop back to the 5-ball ghost.

While you are playing the ghost, notice which shots you have trouble with. If a pattern of trouble appears, work on that first. Since we don't know what sort of shots you miss, it is very hard to provide suggestions on what you need to practice.

While Ratta's suggestion is good for working with open-table situations, it does not emphasize "run the ball along the rail with inside follow" shots, which may be your weakest area.

an some preshot routines for nine ball

There's lots of threads about pre-shot routines; which aren't restricted to the game of 9-ball. It's a pre-*shot* routine, so it works for any shot in any game. ;)

Typically, you want your preshot routine to be exactly the same each and every time. From where you start looking at the shot until after the balls stop moving after the shot. For example, my routine is something like this:

1) Locate the target area for the cue ball for next shot (if running out, otherwise, safety location).
2) Determine best pocket for object ball to put CB in target area.
3) Identify contact point for CB-OB (line of aim, or however you do it).
4) Stand behind CB along that line of aim and calculate english requirements, etc.
5) Step into and get down on the shot, get comfortable bridge/stance/grip.
6) Practice stokes, turn off conscious brain.
7) Execute the shot, stay in finish position until *at least* object ball drops (if you can without interfering with CB path, of course).
8) Stand up, breathe, start over.

As for drills, look up ForceFollow on youtube, or even better, go through his extensive video library on his website: http://web.me.com/forcefollow/Site/Video_Library.html - Pay particular attention to the Drills section.

Another good youtuber for drills is FastMikie.

Lastly, look up the IPAT drill books and videos; they are mostly related to 9-ball in the later sections.

Enjoy!
