Private Billiard Clubs?

Illinois Billiard Club
I am member of the Illinois Billiard Club. $125 a year membership dues. Then the table time is $4 per hour. I mostly just play in the straight pool leagues there and table time is included in league costs. I play a little three cushion there at the hourly rate sometimes. Sit back, relax, have a beer, shoot the breeze and watch others play. Very Cool place,

I voted yes! I think that billiard clubs are the way to go in most areas. If I operated a club, there would be some criteria of course.
- $100-$125 per member per month fee
- I would have a Club Committee consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Public Relations Team of 2-4 people. The members vote on the Club Committee members annually. The Club Committee would receive free membership while serving on the Club Committee. The Club Committee holds private meetings monthly and have quarterly meetings that are open to all club member. Club members would have the opportunity to vote on certain issues affecting the Club.
- Dress code would be inforced. (no cut off jeans, torn clothes, etc)
- I would have a small kitchen and a small bar.
- I would have a small pro shop including sales of merchandise and cue repair.
- I would like to have a Billiards Instructor in the club.
- I would like to have 8-10 bar boxes and 8-10 9' tables.
- I would like to sponsor a few Professional tournaments and Expos during the year and charge a cover charge for Non-Members and a reduced cover charge for Members.
- The Club would sponsor "qualified" teams into the local leagues (APA, TAP, BCA, etc).
- We would run our own Club tournaments and leagues.
- We would have Holiday/Seasonal parties at no cost to the members.
- Free pool for members as long as tables are not being used for league or tournaments.
- Reduced prices on food, merchandise and cue repair to all members.
- League players had scheduled team practice nights with dedicated tables.
- Reduced prices on private lessons.
- Non Members could come into the club to purchase merchandise, take lessons or eat, but at a much higher price than members.
- Non Members could NOT play pool in the club, unless they are a spouse or a (controlable) child of a member.
* I belonged to a Private Billiard Club when I lived in Germany and I tell you what... that is the best time and most competitive group of players that I have ever been involved with.
* I've thought a lot about this, but like most, am short on the financial end. I've got some great ideas, but lack the dough to fullfill them.
Best of luck to anyone that pursues this avenue. I know someday, I plan to do this.

For those of us with basements too small to accomodate a table, unlimited table time would be cost effective.
A club would mean serious players, who do not get drunk & who do not insist on loud music.
Equipment would be respected in a setting where players would not even think about putting lit cigarettes & beer cans on the edge of the table.
Women would come to play pool rather than engage in annoying mating rituals.
One could get "in stroke" or play safe without worrying about pacifying hurt egos or being prepared to utilize their butt as a fighting stick.
I would subscribe.
