Prize money on Ball Breakers

I watched Ball Breakers last night and was not too impressed. The sad thing about this show is they are able to payout $20,000. How come they can come up with $20,000 and many pro tournaments pay less than this for first place with a field of at least 64? If such a lame show can pay out this much each week why can't there be a regular show that has pro players that could pay out the same amount.

I think it would be better if they had 4 top 25 pros consisting of 2 men and 2 women playing and comming up with their own hustle.

its sad when amature players who havent put in the long arduous hours that pros have can make more money in a silly game

A pro event pays out a lot more than just the top finisher, if you add up 1st-10th in the last WPBA event it is just shy of 40,000.00. Also, the WPBA has to pay a hefty fee to ESPN. With this show, it is financed by the network and the advertisers (commercials) pay for everything.

I watched it last night, and I will say, that though the level of play is not high, I think it makes more interesting for it's premise, anyone can win. And I like the fact that they seem to have looked for people with interesting backgrounds, not just pretty people. I know Andrea Shiffman who won last night and I was really routing for her.

Hi Lara! I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know Andrea personally but I've seen her shoot either at Master's or at Amsterdam's, I can't remember which. Anyway, I'm glad she won.

I am not impressed with the show in general. I think that is a horrible representation of pool players in general. I am pleased that there is a show representing the sport but I feel it defeats the purpose. Again, we are not taken seriously and some of the players they have chosen to represent the sport, have only added to the demise....

To me, what they are saying is pool is all about woofing and gambling outrageous amounts of money on stupid moves.. But that is JMO.

I caught the last half of it and I actually didn't think the level of play was all that bad. Hey, they're amateurs (I think). She made some damn good table length shots multiple times and came up with good speed and position. Plus, under the lights, in front of the camera, and for $20 grand, she didn't gag that last shot combo...which could have been easily done.

Is it going to do anything for pool in the long run? Probably not...it's just a damn game show on Game Show Channel and if the ratings fizzle, so will the show. What the hell difference does it make...I was bummed for weeks when the Gong Show got cancelled.

I think ...

Anything that shows lots of money with Pool, and
maybe a little sex, is going to attract people. It
will maintain Pool in people's minds, so that they
may just want to go have some fun doing it (us
hard core addicts are already hooked).

It would be nice if they had some pros, or good
shortstops on the show, say once every 2 months.
I don't think they would have a problem finding 4
that would want to compete.... lol Maybe some
good gamblers that really know how to woof it up.
I know, its playing up the entertainment aspect of
Pool, but lots of people just want entertainment
when they go shoot Pool, and some pursue it later
as a sport.

All of us in the Pool community just want good tournaements
with enough money in them so our top pros can make a
good living, and be the pros that we all want. I figure
anything that might help that get to that goal is worth it.

I agree. I haven't been watching it because I think it just gives out the impression that pool is all about woofing and gambling. Now you're going to see new kids come out to a room and act like these idiots on the show because they believe that's the way pool is played. Aarghhhh...

Ahhhh, I don't think this show is going to have ANY influence on action like that. I think you need to start hanging out in some rooms right after school lets out where youngsters play. They don't need the show. My guess would also be that NO young kids are tuning into it at 10-11 at night. They're either still running up minutes on their cellphone talking about nothing...or on the internet at a chat room or instant messaging.

Besides, with all of the movies on TV about sex, sex, and more sex...why would they even bother with a program like that on a Game Show Channel.
I asked myself that same question last night. (Geez, I must be gettin' old or stupid)
