Not sure if this has been discussed before, but the ref in the Vietnam vs Indonesia match just blew a call (called a foul on a good hit). Refused to look at the video replay - said he wasn’t allowed.

I don’t know what their rules are for this event. The WPA rules only expressly discuss video review when there is an area referee.

However, in all cases they do allow for a protest and for the referee to form his decision on the protest by all means deemed suitable to him, which to me would include video.

I’d be curious what Bob Jewett or Dr Dave think, and also why the Rules don’t explicitly say a presiding referee may review video if available.

Team USA-A has won the 3rd set 4-0 again.

4th set is SVB vs. Oscar in singles action.

1st set: 4-0 USA-A
2nd set: 4-3 USA-B
3rd set: 4-0 USA-A

I am rather enjoying this match. Sophia and Savannah are playing with so much heart.

If the World Cup of Pool never returns, I would be satisfied with Predator's version of a team event.

The format is a joke.

Before the last rack, USA A won 14 racks and USA B won 7 racks.

But if USA B won the last rack, the game would have gone to a shoot-out, where anyone can win.

Can you imagine a NFL or NBA game where one team has a lot more points and still ends up losing?

The announcer, though capable as a presenter, routinely makes clueless comments. He tried to call this teams event as the most prestigious event in pool. I don't think it is one of the top twenty.

History is what makes an event.

World Championship, US Open and Mosconi Cup are the most prestigious events in pool.

1) Continuity. This event wasn't even played last year, so the defending champions are those from 2024. 2) The importance of the event to the pros. I have never heard a player, when interviewed, mention this as one of the titles they most want to capture. Have you? I'm regularly around the world's best players, and this event generates little passion among them. 3) Live attendance is one of the measures of the importance of an event. This event is played in a small playing arena in front of fairly small crowds.

There's really no path to reaching the conclusion that this event is anywhere near the top of the pecking order in our sport. That said, it is very entertaining.

So like tennis then?

I’m not a fan of the shootout but I think the multiple set format is a nice change of pace compared to a standard race to 5 or 7. I don’t think I’d want to see this become the standard but it’s nice as a one of.

I don’t love the short set format, but it’s hard to argue with the results of the singles. Finals were Fedor vs Filler, the best two players in the world.

The cream als rose to the top in the women’s division too.

Same would happen with long set. I see what you're saying though
