Pro players still using wood shafts

him and ko brothers are the last classic maple shaft players, and they're not doing too shabby either.

kaci went back to wood recently, 314-2.
Corteza plays Diveney cues & real maple shafts. Chohan w/Southwest & real maple. The Ko’s did when using Southwest, but I’m not sure if those are true maple on their new Zen cues, they may be cored. Also a few other Filipino’s are still using true maple as well I believe.

in every pool room i go to. i can beat almost everyone with a black shaft, a fancy case, or one that holds multiple cues and shafts, and toys.

that tells a person something.
It tells me you are a better player, that's about it. The "magic" of CF is that it's easier to clean, ding resistant, and it slides through your bridge hand very well without doing maintenance.

Now yes, you can get a wood shaft sliding very well but most people don't have the time or patience to do so. Not counting things like using green scotch brite pads, wood takes a bit of work. Many people have no idea how to maintain a shaft.

I'm not a glove guy. I use wood and CF depending on the the day. Either makes a fine shaft but that doesn't translate into the skill to use them.

i use a glove nowadays but still never have to touch my wood shaft. of course it looks chalk stained and not super pretty.

and the jury is still out on long term rubbing cf on your fingers for hours a day. short term fine.

I just got back from Buffalos one pocket tournament and it was little suprising of the number of the players using carbon fiber shafts.

I was using my wood shaft (Viking ViKore LD) waiting to get a new tip for my CF. I don't think I gave up any playability at all. Maybe a little less deflection with the CF, but nothing that was difficult to adjust to. I was pleasantly surprised because i had a 314-3 that i could not get the accuracy on tough shots that i needed to cinch. I thought the extra stiffness of carbon was the factor but the ViKore is much more flexible and i spot lights out with it. Like you say, the advantage of CF is the durability and lack of maintenance.

There are two pro snooker players i know of using cf shafts. Over time you'll see more. They tend to be very traditional as to equipment so wood will always be the main material used.

Who? McGill and Al-sayed? Is the American still on the tour? Or did he drop off? Cannot be bothered to check.
CF will not enter the snooker world in the same way it has pool. Not in our lifetime. Not unless they bring in some new 'ultimate cue' that plays the shot for you lol

we are talking about their equipment not what they do in play. that is the thread we are in.
cf shafts in particular.
pay attention.

Well, that's one of the things I was alluding to.

In particular, I noted the size of the shafts/tips -- wood and CF -- they were using and the tapers. And the reason for that being noteworthy is that I observed many of them shooting shots that I don't think you can reliably execute with a larger diameter shaft/tip. I also discussed the shaft tapers the pros were using with a cue maker in attendance and the possible advantages to a longer taper, wood and CF.

So go pound sand.

Who? I remember 1 bald guy, but I don't recall his name.

Just came back from Buffalo's and watching the pros from a ringside seat for several days and I would have to disagree.

You can learn much from the pros, regardless of your level of play, if you pay attention.

new and improved
And this has WHAT to do with topic of this tread?? Just curious.

ko bros have maple shafts, 13mm and 12.5mm respectively. it's a sponsor choice that kind of baffles me, but apparently they are backed up on orders

We are talking about their equipment which obviously affects what they do in play.

That is the thread we are in — CF shafts in particular.

Pay attention, lol.
