Problem leather wrap ...

With all the Leather wrap jigs available today they have become a breeze to install, making them easier than Linen, IMO. The result is that Leather wraps no longer command the higher price they once did. You can even get exotics for a lot less than a decade ago.

I've only done around 50 or so leather and exotics but it has gotten to where they are fairly easy to install. I've put on well over a 1000 linen wraps and can truthfully say that there is no comparison between the two for ease of attaining a perfect wrap. It takes about 15 minutes to install and press a linen wrap knowing that it will be a perfect job, unless of coarse a knot pops up in the spool of linen compared to about 45 minutes for the leather. Also the leather wraps, at least for me, do not always turn out perfectly (having a seam show more than desired or not fitting the groove perfectly). Now I do like installing the leather over the linen as there is more profit but I certainly don't believe it is easier.

The leather jigs, of coarse help a little bit but all they do is help making a straight cut on the leather. A steel ruler, with practice, does the same operation and doesn't cost 400.00. The biggest helper in the installation of the leather is the concave/convex template which usually costs 25.00 or less.

These are just my opinions that I have acquired from doing these wraps in the past. Others may have developed different opinions on their past experience or lack of.

A leather wrap takes longer to do.
