Well guys&gals, had one come up last nite that i think i made the right deccision on, but i wont bore you with this long. but say player [a] is breaking ball 9ball texas express, snaps on break cue passes head string but does not hit balls. incomming player thens has the break, he breaks and hooks player[a]can pyayer [a] push out or whould player be on 2 foules if he does do hit ob??i would say if incomming player chooses to rebreak it is a start of new game and player[a] foul is null and void?????

Opinion

Stick I do not know the actual RULE but heres my opinion (everybody has one). Player (A) snapped on the break attempt, player (B) with ball in had broke the balls and got safe, If player (A) then pushes, he has committed his second foul.

Most people play that the game doesnt "start" until a legal break is made. The player that attempted to break would get to try again, or at worst, the opponent would break. The original breaker is NOT on 1 foul though.

Stick, because you were playing Texas Express the game did not start until the re-break. So yes the opponent could have pushed out.

Incoming player ALWAYS has the option to push out after the break shot. Even with Ball In Hand! Although I've never seen anyone do it.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand your question(s). Every shot counts, even a miscue on the break. It is technically not a new game (important on alternate break matches), but the same game with a new breaker. And yes, after this break shot, the player who miscued is on one foul already. And if a player scratches on the break, he is on one foul as well.

Stick, you are cunfusing WPA rules with TE rules.

In TE the rules were the game starts when the CB hits the rack. In WPA rules the game starts when the CB crosses the head string.

Maybe Randy or Robin could explain it more clearly.

Annyway, you said you were playing TE rules. So when the OTHER guy broke and hooked you it is a new game and nobody is on any fouls so yes you can push-out. No matter what you do at this point you are not on any fouls because the game did not start until the rack was broke.

Now if your were playing WPA - World Standardized rules the situation could be different.

Some rules that are suppose to be Texas Express but have grown into 'house rules'

-Game doesn't start until the One Ball is hit. Same Player breaks again.

-If you foul on the break, it doesn't count towards the 3 foul rule. Incoming has BIH

-4 balls must contact rail after 1 ball is hit, otherwise same player breaks agian, or incoming player breaks.

New WSR (Jan 2008) use the contact of the cue tip with the cue ball constitutes the start of the game and therefore must be a legal hit or BIH to incoming player. If there is a foul on the break shot, player is considered to be on the first foul towards 3 consecutive fouls.

You won't ever see those House Rules... your opponent has them tucked away as a trump card to use when it is to his advantage... just like the TD that makes up a rule to cover his a$$ when he makes a mistake after being up at 4am, driving 240 miles to start a tournament with sign-ups and calcuttas by 1pm. :wink:
