I found one for $75 that looked good. Does anyone know how they hit?

from what i hear they're like a bunjee without the logo. i used a friends bunjee j/b and it jumped with ease a little hard to control the cb on the break though

top of the line McDermott..... $500-$1000

top of the line Joss..............$500-$1000

top of the line custom...........$1000 and up

watching a banger trying to break with a plastic tip ........ priceless

Get a stroke before you get a cue....

Thanks!! Have you hit with any of these? I've been looking at the Predators but have never heard how they hit.

I've hit with a Predator BK1, old Gulyassy Sledgehammer and the new Gulyassy, Fury, J&J, and a 2001 Varney. To tell you the truth, i still have yet to find a breaker i like better than my $30 excaliber i bought at sports authority then had a saber-t ferrule and white diamond tip put on, then removed the weight bolt to take it to 17 oz. but of the other ones i have tried, i liked the Varney and BK1 the best.

I bought my J&J JB cue, a few weeks ago and couldnt be happier!!! For 70$ and shipping I have a damn good break/jump.

I even had a friend try and buy it off me the other day lol. I totally refused.

The cue has a good STIFF shaft, and hits a ton on the break, and jumping is easy!

Plus, I've basically made my money back since I've bought said J/B, in smaller tournaments because of this cue.

Thanks for the help. My budget is limited, but the Predators fall into that range.

you might want to check into this further. the rest of the posters can correct me if i am wrong, but doesnt Predator still have that 12.75 mm shaft on its break cue? to me thats not much of a shaft for breaking.

I've looked at some J&J's and they have caught my eye. I wont be using it to jump any (the only two places I play I refuse to jump on their table). I found one I really like and it was around $75 (I havent looked around yet for the best prices). Thanks for the help and telling me how it hits.

I have a nice Scorpion break cue for sale if you're interested.

Was that Scorpion worth the money? I seen they are only $120 at Meuller's and was wondering how they hit also.

i had the Scorpion Break Cue a few years ago. the plain break cue. couldnt wait to sell it shortly after i got it. get a $30 cheap sneaky pete and put a harder tip on it, you'll be worlds better off.

the thing with break cues is you really dont need that expensive of a break cue.

I've used an x-breaker for a long time. While the break is amazing, it doesn't hit that much better than the fury j/b.
Not enough to warrent the extra money.

Fury break cue is one of the best jump cues i've ever broke with. Stiff hit, nice tip, looks pretty.

J&J also makes a great break cue, but the quality isn't as good as the fury.

I personally use a lucasi jump cue, as i hate 2 pc jump cues. I'd use the J&J j/b as just a break cue while still using the full cue as a breaker. I dunno, i just don't like the fat butt of most jumpers that are part of the cue.

My friend had the pred breaker which broke real good, and also played really good but honestly the phenolic ferrule/tip of the fury is the best breaking cue i've ever used.

currently i use a players cue as my breaking cue. Honestly all you need is a hard triangle tip.

I've noticed that when people with weak breaks use the phenolic tipped cues like fury or x-breaker their break improves phenomenally.

So definatly go with the x-breaker or the fury, however they both hit good enough that you are better off buying the fury as they are almost 2x as cheap.

just my 2 cents.

All good answers.

Another thing to consider is resale value and availability of used break cues. Just check ebay, or search the For Sale section of this forum for starters. Obviously, if there few to no used ones available of any of the break cues mentioned earlier, or the prices are very close to the original purchase price, then the folks that bought them new must generally be happy enough to keep them.

Happy hunting!

Thanks for all the help guys! I'll definitely take into consideration all of this.

I'm sure the hard tip is really a must right? I've never hit with a hard one, but assume it would make a huge difference.

IMO, if you assume it'll make a HUGE difference you will probably perceive a HUGE difference - so go for it. Kinda like, if you think a $300 j/b will outpreform a $100 one - it probably will in your eyes too. That said, I had a J&J and while it put more OOOMPH in my break, it wasn't the easiest to control the cueball (phenolic ferrule/tip combo). The thing made jumping as easy as pie though (as I'm sure dedicated jump cues do as well), but that's comparing it vs. jumping with my full playing cue.

I bought it at a tourney this year, used it for 3-4 months, decided I'd never get around to practicing the way I should with it, and sold it to a buddy for what I bought it for....no biggee. He loves it, plays and practices quite a bit more than I do, and I know he's breaking better than I have ever seen him.

Conclusion - if you're willing to work with it and get the control down, they are better than just breaking with your player, and as I said, the jumping ... no comparison - VERY EASY to do with the J&J I had.

Here's a sidenote from a very mediocre player. I have no idea how to rate myself on this forum since if I believe most of the posts everyone here runs out racks more than half the time. But I'm more of the sort where a runout is a noteable event, happens once a quarter if I'm lucky.

Anyway... I bought a $110 Fury Jump & Break... mostly because I was jonesing for my McDermott to come back from the shop with its new I2 Shaft and I had to get something in my hands :) (I guess those Fury's cost more in general, like $150, but it was on sale at Nielsen's)

Anyway... I've been using it for the last 3 or 4 months. It's great for jumping cause I can now actually jump. For breaks, I definitely get a better spread. It's noticeable. But it's a freaking crapshoot, I rarely sink a ball on a nine footer (eight ball, not nine), and I scratch about once in 7 or one in 8. I finally got wise and switched back to the house cue for the break. I'm now sinking at least one at least 75% of the time, and I'm leaving the cue ball in the middle of the table like I mean to almost every break.

There's no doubt the jump cue is giving me better ball speed, but it's killed my cue control (I'm sure this is because I'm a banger and don't hit the thing like I want to when I unleash) and with the huge spreads I'm getting for some reason I can't sink anything. What's my point? no point, just thought I'd present another view. As far as breaking with my player... I'm against that too, not because I don't think the cue would hold up, but because I'm too cheap to replace tips that often and I do just as well with the house cue as I do my player on the break.

Looks like I'm going with a J&J Break Cue. I've hit with one now and absolutely love it. Thanks for the help!

I have a J&J. For the money they are good jump break cues. The jump works well and they break hard. I break the balls at 28mph+.
