Progressive Jackpot for Casino Pool.

I was thinking of an idea for pool in a casino, I am sure that nobody will pull any punches when declaring this a dumb idea so here it goes:

If a casino already has a table why not charge 100 dollars per inning for players to beat Willie Mosconi's high run. The house could take a percentage of each attempt and the rest would go in to a progressive prize fund. I also think the house could benefit on rail action where bets are taken on how much a player will score in any given inning. The grand prize could also grow by putting a percentage of rail action in to the jackpot. The house would have to have an official monitor each run which might an obstacle.

If a player beats the run then that run becomes the new standard and the process starts over.

You might not even have to do this in a casino just a room in a place that allows gambling like Vegas or Atlantic city.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this?

I don't think its a dumb idea at all. We have a casino where I live ( doesn't everyone these days?) and I've often wondered if there wasn't some way a table could be incorporated into the arena.

I think there would be many ways to set up some action to try and beat the house.

The problem with this is that there are probably less than 5 people in the world that have any remote chance at breaking Mosconi's run. To be successful they would have to make it so that your average joe can at least participate. A break pot would be nice to have in casinos, maybe 10 ball, with each ball made on the break receiving say 48% of your bet and the 10 ball on the break would win some kind of jack pot.

Actually, odds for the balls on the break might be better. 1 ball pays .5 to 1, 2 pays 1 to 1, 3 pays 3 to 1 etc. The house could just take a commission for each rack.
