Projector training system

The ICA system is $895 without a projector. Pricey, but looks very effective???
YIKES! I recall it was $600 a few years ago. I can't imagine anyone paying $900.

I just went on their website, I could not find it for sale anywhere, or the price anywhere. The only for sale items I could find were 3rd party drills. Is it still a product for purchase?

Huh? What is the backstory?
I understand that one of the PBB folks left and started the ICA with PBB tech. That said, I wasn't involved and just heard it second hand. I'm sure there's more to the story and folks can probably call both PBB and ICA to find out if they are interested in getting details.

I have the ICA system and I know Robin Dryer the owner well. Both he and the system are first class. Keep in mind that it's not just about projecting an image on the table, it's about the quality and presentation of the training material available on that system.

In my opinion, it's the the content of ICA system that wins hands-down.

you post in NPR you are rich
i am surprised you dont see the value of the system
the system is worth way more than that if it helps you become a good player
if you click on "shop ICA " you will find the prices

Thanks, I was clicking there but it was taking me to the drop down of the 3rd party products. Now I see it.

I do have the Projection Pro Billiards system and mentioned that in this thread. I bought it in 2019 for $249 (I just checked my invoice from then). Its currently $329 on their site (I just checked).

My point was the ICA guys priced themselves out of the market, IMO.

Iusedtoberich,
Is there an issue with bulb life and/or projector cooling with the projector pointed almost straight down when placed above the side pocket?
Thanks, Steve
It is a fire hazard. The lamp gets extremely hot and the fan can't effectively carry away the heat with it mounted straight up and down. This will likely shorten the lifespan of everything involved, including the raspberry pi if it is mounted near that heat source.

I'm curious if anyone has ever used a laser projector with any of these systems, maybe that would avoid that issue.

I've had mine that way since 2019, and the raspberry is double sided taped to the top of the projector. No issues. Use at your own risk.

I was using a regular projector at my last house. I've recently moved and I'm putting in a 9 footer and as part of the process I bought a laser projector for my ICATs system. I have it in the pool room but not mounted up yet (ie in a box). The challenge for a laser projector is how far off the table you can get it for the length of the table. I have an 8 foot ceiling and a laser projector needs about two more inches or so higher than that for a 9 foot table. I am cutting a box out of the drywall in the ceiling so I can mount the projector in the ceiling (with auxiliary ventilation).

Our tests of the projector blew my mind on the table when testing - looking forward to having this mounted.

I had no idea what laser projectors were until you mentioned it here. I did a quick search on amazon, and found one that is a short throw model. Just incase you were interested in that type...

I appreciate it. Turns out that the lasers with the exact same stats as the LEDs actually do need just a few more inches. If you get an ICATS system, definitely talk to Robin before you buy a projector. 👍

Nice, I'd like to see some pics when you have it all done!

I just found out my 9 foot diamond will be in town on Friday and probably installed next week, so I have some serious motivation to get this mounted. Going to work on it Friday - will post pictures after it and the table are in. 👍

So, I'm trying to decide between PPB and ICATS?? They look pretty much like the same content and software but the PPB is 1/3 the cost. Any input would be appreciated.

They are both good but you won't use it as much as you think. You could save the extra money if that's a key consideration. Also, PPB integrates with Poolbilliards.co from your phone so you can do drills just by browsing the web. It's a nice feature and one that I use the most.

I have the PPB. The user interface is clunky, but usable. I personally don’t like the drills on it and prefer to make my own of just ball positions. I never tried the ICA one to have an opinion on it.

As the op, this is my dilemma right now. If it's anything like all the other training gadgets and books I have purchased, I probably wouldn't be using it as much as I thought I would before buying one. I have been using Billiards specific colored page reinforcers, that match the color of each particular ball, and setting up some predetermined configurations and trying to run those setups out. I bought an online book of table configurations and where to place the stickers at, and also what action to put on the cue ball. It probably is a bit more of a pain in the rear, but I can set up one configuration and use it for a month if I feel like it or shorter or longer if I feel like it.

The drills on ICATS are made by the founder Robin - IMO one of the best instructors out there. There is a TON of modules available so you can dial into just about an area of your game you can imagine.

The tech is one thing, but it's no good if the content isn't where you need it.
