Before i start ill just say i still havent seen any footage of the WPC , just followed it online.

Everybody on this board has been noticing the strong performance of the Phillipines and other asian countries. Ummmm, didn't Efren seriously dominate all of these players on the Asian 9-ball tour? Didn't he win 3 out of 5 events this year? Events that saw Django, generally considered the second best Phillopino, go out in the first or second round nearly every time? Now the world championships come along and just about every name on that tour had a strong showing. Just goes to show, Efren's still got it. I guess his performance at the DCC earlier this year showed it too, but the WPC reaffirmed it, not by his play but by the play of others who he has dominated in the past. I wonder why he hasn't been able to get it fully together last 8 or 9 years at the WPC, i think his only victory there is in 1995.

He probably made a whole lot of money gambling every night after the tournament. That's something I've noticed about Efren, he plays after hours just about more than I've seen anyone else do. While the other players are sleeping or playing blackjack or whatever, you'll see Efren in the green room matching up or he'll be playing chess all night. What's really amazing is that in spite of being up all night playing chess or matching up with someone on the pool table, he still manages to do extremely well in the tournaments. Pretty awesome as far as I'm concerned.

I had the priveledge of watching some very (very :) ) brief highlights of the final, Alex was ecstatic after winning running around and jumping up on the barriers seperating the crowd from the table/players, I've never seen a celebration like that before!

Just so you'll have an idea how deadly Efren is, I'll share with you this episode that happened a couple of years ago at Hampton, VA. After tournament play ended we went to the pool hall owned by Barry Behrman in Norfolk where he proceeded to play this other pro player. I will not mention the other guys name but he didn't want to play 9ball, instead he wants to play 8ball and a lot of weight from Efren. It took a while for them to match up but finally they agreed to play race to 11, winner breaks, and Efren spotting the other guy 8 on the wire. Basically, the other guy just needs 3 games to win the match. Now, anywhere you look at this, it is a MONSTER SPOT!!! They did 3 matches, with 2 matches going hill-hill, with Efren winning and the last match with the biggest bet, the other guy didn't win a single game!!!. HE CAN WIN WHEN HE WANTS TO WIN BADLY ENOUGH!!!.
I can't say that he didn't want to win WPC, but he probably got his reasons unknown to us. Maybe, and who knows, the guy is a great tactician, he might have had some ulterior motives. But one thing is sure and this is a given, that he always makes money whenever he plays in this tournament.

OK, I saw Efren play one good player at Hard Times some last pocket 8-ball.
Efren had to shoot opposite handed or no-bridge right handed. Efren ran two racks in two sets of race to 6.
Back in '96 we were at Hollywood Billiards. One 3-C player wanted to play Efren some 3 cushion upstairs where they had a billiard table. Efren beats him for a set and they quit. Efren had to play with his MEUCCI pool cue since he was under contract with them.
