Proper cue shaft maintenance

I know there are several ways of keeping your shaft in good shape, but I hope some of the cuemakers or cuerepairmen here on az will share their advices.

I don't think about daily cleaning, but rather:
Sanding
Sealing
Burnishing
Waxing

Sand your shaft if you want to make it play like something other than what you purchased.

This advice is not good for my repair business but.....the best thing you can do is leave it alone.

Wipe it down with a damp paper towel after playing is about all I do to mine.

I agree on the daily cleaning wiping down threatment. I do also use a q-wiz from time to time, but sometimes shafts are sticky and/or have dents. Some use water to threat the dents and others do sand their shafts, seal them, burnish and even put wax on. Of course sanding will influent the shaft, but a dent can be quite annoying as well, and if somebody else already has started sanding the shaft....

I understand that some cue repairmen do not want to share their secrets for business reasons, anyway I think this issue has a place on the az forum... so understanding the secrets and appreciating the shares

I burnish mine with a pint glass and a hunk of leather. The pint glass really smooths out the shaft, possibly compressing the wood to make it "harder" and raise minor dents. The leather cleans on the rough side and smooths out the shaft on the smooth side.

Wipe the shaft with a damp cloth or paper towel before putting it away.

Wash your hands often.

Chalk with the hand that you hold the butt with.
