Proper Height to Hang Pool Table Light

I have done a lot of reading on this and found a lot of conflicting information. Some say to hang the light at nose level, but I am 6'3" so that height would be way different than for someone shorter. I have also read anywhere from 32" to 36" off the slab. Also heard 50" as well.

Other than having to play around with the height for the ideal light casting what are the official rules. I read something about if the light is capable of being moved out of the way it should be a certain height than if it is not moveable.

Any ideas about this guys?

The diamond billiards website has a diagram showing what they recommend. FWIW, I’m 6’1” and my light is about 7’ from the ground.

For me higher is better but it's a low ceiling. .... Mine is about 30" above the table. It has 4. 8ft tubes. I'm 6'1" I need a helmet & bandaids. Keep hitting my head
If the fixture had 6'bulbs the height would be fine. Consider the ceiling height, size of fixture before doing anything.

The light should not prevent a masse shot with a normal length cue anywhere on the table. If it's moveable, then you don't have to be 95 (or so) inches above the floor.

According to that diagram they say 78" from the floor to the bottom of the light. That would be above my head by 3". Any concerns about the light getting in your eyes at that height?

I would say minimum of 42" to maximum of 48", depending on the length of your light fixture from one end to the other. Too low will limit the amount of light getting to the ends of the table, and be too easy for a recreational player to hit their cue with on their follow through.

My light was custom made by a neighbor. It was my first experience with a custom light. Certainly a learning experience. I'm tempted to replace it with a flat panel but will most likely leave it. Currently it's ....Set Pause Finish Freeze...Stand smash head.

not at all sure it's the best, or even a good idea, but I'm mounting 4 fixtures that each hold 2 (might get the 3 tube version instead, still deciding) LED "fluorescent" tubes. they will be mounted directly to the ceiling which is 7 feet off the floor. I'll then put diffusers like the diamond lights have under them.

Is there any problem with hanging the light “too high”? I have a 9 foot ceiling in my table room and I am considering mounting it to the ceiling. I would imagine if I bought LED bulbs that it would be bright enough to not be a problem. Any reason not to do it that I’m missing?

Direct glare should be a consideration. An open bottom conical shade would glare when egg crate diffusers in florescent fixtures might not, for example.
