Just by numbers, more people play bar box 8-ball than any other pool game in the world. If the pros played that more often: a) more to learn from by watching b) most exciting to watch c) DVDs would sell d) most resembles everyones league night. Maybe 1% of the world pool population plays 10-ball or 9-ball on a big table, hence not such a big draw to watch. Now set up a team match of pros playing 8-ball a standard bar box, and that would be a blast. US vs England bring it on!

There are quite a lot of pro events played on bar boxes these days. I posted something similar awhile back. Most amateurs play 8 ball on 7' tables. I prefer rotation games and like 10 ball but its time to think about what the masses want to watch.

I truly feel that if pro players would play the same game as the amateurs and reach out to league players it would go a long way in building the sport.

One mans opinion.

More than just one man's opinion.

Tho the 7-footer isn't as critical, to me. Of course, I rarely play on them :p
(APA here in Maine is played mostly on 9-footers...)

I think all pool should be played on regulation (9 X4.5) tables and the game would be better for all . I don't think Tiger Woods does much competing on a mini golf course IMHO

Would be nice, but how many bars you know that will remodel to make room for a 9 footer or take away 2 tables to make room for one?

Pool played by true pool players is best done on 9' tables that are setup just so.
Most pool on the planet is played by drunk people who don't care that the table has cloth with more crap on it than a diaper and more rolls than a Weight Watchers meeting.

Correct. The most popular cue sports played is 8 ball. In Uk and many British colonies blackball or English pool is played which is like 8 ball
So it is shocking that there are less 8 ball tourneys played by pros and on TV
If only there are more 8 ball tourneys it will lead to big jump to viewership and fans and more sponsorship compared to 9 or 10ball :)
