pros vs southwest cues

Southwest cues are made by the Franklin family in a garage in LasVegas. When I left Vegas about 6 to 7 years ago the shop was in, like it always has in Laurie Franklin's home garage. I believe at that time that they only made about 300 to 400 cues a year. Jerry asked me to play with his personal cue about 25 years ago, at first I declined but later reconsidered, and i'm glad I did, reason being that the Southwest cue was the finest cue I ever played with, barr none. Unfortunately that cue was stolen from me, and I would pay $20,000 to get it back. After that I played with another Southwest and that cue was also stolen from me, I guess I had a lot of good and bad luck with the Southwest cue, but I would love to play with another one as I finish my playing years. Matter of fact I think I will call Laurie and order one, maybe i'll get it in a year or less, hopefully.

Jerry and Laurie Franklin were two of the finest people that I have ever met, and Jerry was the most quality conscious cuemaker that there ever has been. After Jerry passed Laurie continued in the business with Jerry's brother and helpers, the cues are still made the way Jerry insisted and are probably the most consistent ( in terms of quality ) cues made. If you own a Southwest you have a great cue.
Billy, Could not agree with you more. I've been playing with my 60 inch SW for going on 20 years. My practice shaft is near 25 years old from my 1st SW stick/butt (I cracked-deeply regret). On occasion, left current SW in car in Chicago sub-zero weather, 90 degrees in South, and across country on motorcycles-still straight as an arrow-I continue to love it. For those of you that know John Wright-RIP, I purcahsed from him. Have you noticed SW has never advertised? I've toyed with others--people ask me, how you like it? Most hit stiff, few come close.

nitti is another guy that makes cues out of a shop in his garage. its kind or a sweet setup actually. he does every single thing on the cues himself and seems like there is a magnifying glass over every machine he has. he is very meticulous so i know that its better going to him to get a cue. the quality is just as good if not better and ive noticed more and more people on here with a nitti cue in their case.

yeah im on the waiting list but now that the prices went up why wait? id rather get a jerry franklin now for the same price. but hell yeah im buying one in 7 more years. its not like im waiting in line at walmart. i should have got on the list a long time ago since no deposit is required. but i love my nitti and its my 4th one. Best playing cue ive ever tried. the ob shaft helps too. :o)

I THINK HE WAS AT COSMOS PLACE YESTERDAY FOR THE BLAZE STOP..... GOING BY "MARK J" HIS CUE HAD A SW LOOK TO IT, COULD HAVE BEEN A KERS

Mark plays with a 6 pt. DPK and also a Bobbie Hunter Koa wood merry widow. His fancy SW cue was stolen from him probably 4-5 yrs ago. He'd probably kill to get it back.

I heard he was out East playing 3C billiards...I hope he's back for league on wed...we need him:p

I talked to Laurie Franklin yesterday and asked her how many cues S.W. is producing every year, she said about 100. She refuses to compromise the quality in her cues in trade for numbers. She also said that the most cues they ever put out in any year was about 250. I odered a cue from her and will be getting it inside of a year. I am very fortunate to be getting it in such a short period of time, maybe because I was a good friend of Jerry and Laurie, and maybe because I played with their cue for such a long time, or maybe because, well because you fill in the rest.

I know them very good, and Billy is 100% correct, they do "Favors" for important people in pool like Billy, but thats very rare-they stick to their list. I have been going there since 86 and they are making about 30% as many cues as they did at their peak, i can tell by how many cues I see in production. Buying a SW is never a mistake. They are among the best player cues ever made. I have one I used for 7 years and another one I used for around 2 years. I still own them both.

Glad Billy is getting another one. perhaps he will play me banks 7-4.;)

I don't remember missing the one with ball in hand aginst Tony, but i'm sure you're right, i've missed with ball in hand many more times than once.
I was playing in my league last night and missed with BIH, oops!!! As I was down on the shot, I thought of this post and, lo and behold, cut a straight-in shot. I thought reading AZ was supposed to help my game :D
