hi!

i like to know if i like a cue around 18 to 19 oz. and if i want a purple heart for the forearm and buttsleeve(inlaid or not) what wood type for the ahndle should match the purpleheart forearm and buttsleeve in terms of a solid hit but yet maintain a good balance, assuming i will have the handle unwrapped. or another option is a curly or birdseye forearm and sleeve but with a purpleheart handle unwrapped. which of the two combos works for maintaining a good weight that can still get away with weight bolts at the back and still maintain a good hit and balance? all of this assuming i have a 3.8oz shaft? thanks!--Diablo

Sure opinions vary, but My personal choice would be purpleheart in the handle. Might balance out somewhat easier also. I guess I just prefer maple fronts Myself, but I do like the feel & balance of a PH handle.

Funny you should ask this! I'm in the process of building a group of cues, one of them happens to have a purpleheart forearm and butt sleeve with a curly maple handle and another has a curly maple forearm and butt sleeve with a purpleheart handle, both should retail around $300 with rings and one shaft.

I like the looks of purpleheart with curly maple, both as a handle and in the forearm/butt sleeve.

Mike,
I haven't used purole heart in the handle, but works fine in forearm & butt, with maple handle. The heavier purpleheart helps put some weight forward.
Your new cue is done, just need to spray the joint protector. Either today or tomorrow. Give me a call and we can arrange pickup, or I will bring it to the next tourn.

I love this cue.Just thought I would share some pic's.:)

Nice. I've always thought that's the way a cue should be photographed too (with some glare on it to show how nice the finish looks).

Purpleheart forearm/buttsleve

Here's a cue I recently finished. It's purpleheart from end to end, less the maple handle under the wrap.

The cue on this pic is one I made for my sister out of Purpleheart and Curly. Came out very nice looking in person, much nicer than the pic. Very nice playing cue as well.

I don't know if I'll sell all my cues, but I am definitely looking forward to getting it and perhaps making it my daily player! It's a little ways away though. :D

Meucci did some of the originals with purple heart under the wrap. The best meucci I ever hit with, altough the shafts on ours are not original. They are even aftermarket laminated, or built to fit the cue. Greg

omg ,,,,Meucci,,,,,,,,I think Im getting ill

stainless joint,,,,,,,,,,looks a lot like a Black

ok,,,,,,,,guy who sold me the cue said it was a Rizzo

LOL, Don't worry I'm not saying that's what It Is, just that not being a lover of the feel of a M myself, that the original felt pretty decent with good shafts on there, and found out when rewrapping the cue that It had purpleheart under the wrap also. There's no mistaking what kind of cue It is, and It's not a stainless joint, but does have the old brass pin. Several makers have probably used purpleheart the same way, so I have no idea what make it might be.

I always thought old Originals hit pretty decent and were prett good quality... much better than what they have made in the past 10-15 years. To me it was almost like a switch went off.

I have seen purpleheart used under wraps as well...not too uncommon I think. You never know what is lurking under a wrap in a cue...

Yep, your correct Kelly. This cue seems to be alot closer to custom type quality then the newer ones. Nothing has come loose either, but after years of breaking also, It does have some of the usual tiny cracks in the trim, altough I would say not as bad as most. Ebony points, and 2 or 3 color veneers into birdseye. It's definatly seen better days, but makes a good bar type player cue, where you don't want to beat your good cue up. My Dad won all 5 of his rounds last night also using that cue in this 2 table bar with concrete floors we had to play in LOL. And He says He can't see anymore. I wish I would have packed a beater also, I beat the mess out of My cue in this place, and grinded the bumpers up on both It and My break/jump. Greg
