Push Out Question

This guy was getting the 5,7 and last 2 last night. The opponent made his 7 ball on a push out. The guy getting the spot said the ball was to be spotted, so an argument sorta broke out. The opponent said that where he was from it was legal and the 7 was not to be spotted. Normally we play the 7 would be spotted.

What are your thoughts?

If that is part of the spot, it must come up.

the 7 gets spotted back up.ive never played of heard of a game where its ok to push out or foul and make a spot ball and it not get spotted.

Yep, same way down here. I also think that if you foul and pot a ball that is part of your opponent's spot it comes up. Basically, if someone's getting let's say the 8 - the 8 becomes an extra 9 ball. If it's hanging in a pocket and you shoot it so your opponent doesn't get an easy combo, it spots just like a 9 would.

I think this is one of those things that would just have to be worked out b/w the players. Texas Express rules, I'm fairly certain, would say that the 7 stays down, but those rules, to my knowledge, do not contain any provisions for handicapped games where balls are spotted. For sure it's kind of an underhanded move, but it may be normal in some places. Of all of the times I've given up weight, it's never even crossed my mind.

Yes and the guy is trying to cheat you. It's played the way Jay says everywhere, unless you let him get away with it.

Yes if it was a money ball it has to spot. I had a guy call a push and went for a hard kick and made the 9. He thought that he won. But not on a push, all money balls made will be spotted and the next guy still has choice to shoot or not

It was a real big argument and after asking 5 or 6 other players he finaly let it go. The 9 spotted and was an easy combo for me.

I was there last night with nineball man when this happened. The guy getting the spot asked me what I thought the ruling was and I said without a doubt, that the ball spots. Otherwise, why would the guy giving the weight EVER shoot at the 1 ball after the break? Even if he had a straight in shot on the 1, he could pull this move. And thats exactly what the other guy was trying to do...pull a move.

$$$ awalys spot unless its agreed on at the beginning of the game-which would be strange. Sounds like he gave up a bit more than he should have and was working every angle he could to get a little weight back, its a weak move no matter how good the guy giving up the spot plays, I wouldnt play him again-its just a problem looking for a time to happen.
