Putting on a leather wrap

I hope this is the right forum...

Anyways, I recently bought a schon stl1 with linen wrap. Before this cue, I'd used the same wrapless cue my entire pool-playing career and only had a few racks of experience with a wrap cue when I'd borrow a friend's for a game or whatever. I didn't notice anything too different those times so I didn't think much of it when I ordered my cue.

Well, after playing 5 hours last night I can say that I hate linen wrap. Maybe it'll get better, but right now it's just way too slick, completely destroying my touch on many shots.

I'd still like to try to salvage for myself what's otherwise a great cue. How possible would it be to get leather wrap put on the cue instead? How much of a difference will that make? What would the cost be? And, finally, anyone in the Vegas area willing to do this? (If I go this route I'm fine with shipping it off, too, just figured it'd be easier if someone were right here). Or might I be better off simply selling my schon and buying a wrapless cue?

Thanks, guys!

leather wrap

A leather wrap should be about 100/125 dollars,Kenny Koo aka flyingsnail does a good job.contact him on the forum,he was going to do my cues ,however I sold both of them and the new cue already has a leather wrap.

If you wanted to go the route of stack leather, get in touch with Ryan Theewen. He goes by ratcues on this board.
He does an amazing job at a good price, and there are lots of options.
Check my sig photos of my main player, and back up.
He made my player, and did the stack wrap on my STL8.

i hate linen too unless it is done just right.it takes much shaving and polishing for me to like a linen wrap.i hate the feel of them when you first get one and all the cuemaker did was basically install it and press it.it slips right out of my hand and i don't like the ridges either.Mike Webb here at AZ can polish it so smooth it will fell like leather.i am not sure what he charges but it will be a lot cheaper than leather, and you will not have to cut into the cue, which is really no big deal, but some don't like the idea.on the other hand $100 for a leather wrap is a good price.

IMHO that's the problem overpressing, shaving, sealing an irish linen wrap to the point it's too smooth...McDermott wraps are right on where they should be...I like to feel a little bit of the ridges between the threads so it has some grip...

i remember you liking yours that way from a similar thread, but lots of people like them pressed and soft.i like them like SW,Cognoscenti,Webb,Manzino, etc does and a few others.you grab the cue and it feels softh yet tacky.they have pressed it polished it so well that it is actually almost tacky,it fells lift soft garmet leather.they get even better wfter some play time and the skin oils get in.i think it would be a good option for Rocket354 to try,as most cuemakers don't get them smooth like the guys i mentioned above.

well I've decided to go with replacing the linen wrap with smooth leather. I'll be having Kenny Koo do it. I'll update in 1-2 weeks when it's all done just so anyone else in my situation can have another data point to help make their decision.
