putting precious stones in a cue design

Richard,

You can go to Danny's website and he has a gallery of photos of the cues he has built Tibbitts Cues. I think that one of the main unique features of Danny's cues are the long, thin, very sharp points. Every one of Danny's cues that I have hit with had a very solid hit...maybe a little on the stiff side.

The cue that I'm playing with now is the four-point with the rectangular Ivory windows in the butt sleeve. Since the photo in the gallery was taken, Danny has replaced the butt plate with an Ivory one with a signature.

Thank you very much. I was not awared that he has a website. This is wonderful!
The points look so beautiful. I wish I will have the chance to try one out in the future.
I am playing with a Layani cue now. Have you ever tried one?

Would it be feasible to first place the stones and set in a clear casting resin and then after hardening, cut the resin,,,,,,.Just a thought.

I remember in some class (college) way back when, some clear epoxy (maybe casting resin) was used to encapsulate items (bugs, jewelry,,) I can see how an item, maybe made into a ring with stones set at the proper angle and height could be 'cast,,,once hardened, it could be bored to fit as a butt/forearm ring,,,sort of like viking cues of old.

anybody have thoughts on a process like this ?

No, I've never played with a Layani. I don't know much about them. I have a Scruggs that Danny is making a couple of shafts for right now, and I'll use it for my playing cue. The shafts that came with it are 13mm and I use 12.5 mm. I don't want to retaper the original shafts.

Once he finishes the shafts for the Scruggs, I'll just put both of my Tibbitts cues away. The Scruggs should just about duplicate the hit of the Tibbitts that I've been playing with because he is duplicating those shafts. That will give me a nice playing cue and allow me to preserve the real collectible cues. I just made a deal with Chris Hightower for one of his cues to add to my colection, too. It's built on an old Burton Spain full-splice blank...very nice collectible cue. It's another one that I probably won't play with...maybe never even chalk it and hit a ball. That one will have a certain amount of historical value.

A Burton Spain blank as in the butt of a burton spain or a real plain BS blank...How did you get that?
