Qatar Open and World Championship Title

The Qatar Open started in 2008, which was also the first year without a World 9-ball Championship. In 2010 the World 9-ball Championship was brought back, this time in Qatar, essentially rebranding the Qatar Open as the World 9-Ball Championship. Since there were two Qatar Opens Champions (Dennis Orcullo in 2008 and Mika Immonen in 2009), and with the rebranding of the Qatar Open to World Championship, should the winners of the previous Qatar Open be recognized as the World 9-Ball Champion of that year?

no- I dont imagine the previous ones had the same requirements for entry as the real WPC.

Also there is an added pressure to each of the players playing for a world title rather than a random open event. Also some players step up their game considerably in prestigous events. Earl will may play spotty all year but at the US Open he always seems to play great. Although Mika and Dennis are worthy champions, who knows what would have happened it was an official world championship.

Good Points...but shouldnt any pro player be prepared to play to win in any big tournament?

I don't think so.

The two tournaments have their own requirements and pressures. They are different.
