I know a lot of people poke fun at the thought of systems, how ever systems for playing pool have been around forever. It might be a kicking, or banking system, or even a lining up or aiming system. Don't short change your game by just dismissing something without trying it. I highly doubt if there is one person on this board that never uses at least one type of system. Even the guys with their funny Put It IN The Hole System clip, probably uses a system once in a while. Me, I love em, Hel* I wish I knew them all. There are still a couple of aiming systems out there I want to learn, but cannot afford the lesson, hopefully some day I get to add them to my memory bank, Lord knows I have plenty of room up there. (lol) This thread is not intended to start a debate, but just intended to voice my opinion. I am IRock and I am a systemholic.
 
hey i feel ya on this one, i use a system for kicking but havent really found one that i like for banking, i play one pocket about once a week for about 4 hours with a few older guys and they always kill me when it comes to the banks.
 
For one pocket banking I would try using outside English. If you aren't you will be amazed.

It's funny but i've been searching for that magic system for some time now.Books, tapes,magazines,internet,pro's and old timers; ect. where is it?I wake up 7am this morning thinking about it.Made some coffee and right to the computer,thinking today might be the day I find it.Its like fool;s gold am I going insane,has any one else experience this obsession to find the answer.Some of the systems work for some shots,do you have to incorperate all of them,seems like there is to much going on between the ears at times,I must manage with confidence in my pre shot routine approuch.Clear the mind of all the clutter.Is there any help for me,am I wasteing my time and energy.Or will I find that RAINBOW IN THE END!THANKS FOR ANY HELP>>HANK<<
 
The Holy Grail is knowledge with practice.
I have search probably just as much as anyone for the perfect aiming system only to find out there isnt one.Yes there are alot of systems that will get you in the right line or close to it but thats just part of it.
You cannot always aim at the ghostball and get away with it.There are to many ways to pocket balls with the same angle.
I think thats why so many beginners struggle, there mind is telling them ,that looks right but once you realize what speed, spin ,non spinning cueball, dirtyballs,the weather etc,,,how they effect the shot they will soon realize that there are alot of shots that dont look right but are.
I wish when i first started playing i would of got with a good instructor,its
hard to fix bad habits especially when you dont know what they are.,,,

I agree with all of you. Practice and continual play, may in deed be as close to the Holy Grail as we get. For me, I think that a combination of parts of a lot of the systems work best. Personally, I believe that some of the top pros use some sort of aiming system, regardless of what they say. ( not all of them) I also believe a lot of them use BHE, just watch their tip placement during their entire set up and delivery of a shot. At least for the quest, it's nice to know, there are other players out there with the same affliction and addiction that I have. (lol)
 
I don't use systems but I'll occasionally use aiming 'tricks' on banks and kicks. Some of them are homebrew.

As for aiming systems... it's not that I'm anti-system but I gave some of them a try and didn't like it. The thing is, I LIKE aiming systems. I used to play a video game where I was basically known as the aiming system guy, while others preferred to aim by feel. I'd love to be able to plug in a formula and get an accurate line of aim. I think a lot of 3 cushion shots work that way.

But in pool there are so many variables that no system can account for all the different cuts out there and give more consistent results than just hitting a million balls. I bet even the system guys will default to what their experience tells them, on the occasions that their eyeballs disagree with the system.

There is definately a "Holy Grail"...

Only discovering it takes something only the greatest players really know and they will not tell. They may give hints here and there, but they will not tell with simple and clear description, because then everyone would never miss a ball and always run out....

It cannot be discovered until you know how to pocket balls first...

Then learn to control the cue ball very well...

Then learn to have the mental game in control...

After these 3 items have been mastered, then the Holy Grail can be imployed and put into action and delivered to opponents...

It is something very simple and right in front of your eyes and also a part of it is hidden as well...

It is there...

Are you sure you've got one?!
 
It is possible though however unlikely that you have already stumbled upon the Grail and have yet you realize it. Through rigorous practice and information found here at AZ you may find enlightenment!:thumbup:
