Question about 1 Pocket.

I don't play one pocket and haven't really even watched one pocket. So it's safe to say I don't know anything about the game. I was reading some posts in "The Action Room" and Dippy was challenging some people to some games.

Now my question is this:

When he is challenging someone to a game and puts 18-4, 19-5, or 16-4 what exactly does that mean???

Means he has more money than skill. Oh, this was sooo open for that

But seriously, in an even game, first to get 8 balls in his pocket wins. Since the match up is uneven, the other player needs to make 18 balls to his 4. Since obviously you can't make 18 balls in a regular rack, the extra balls needed get spotted up.

18-4 means one guy is really good, and the other one really bad

1 pocket, in my opinion, is a dumb game. You are not pocketing balls and it's the same old shot....back and forth.

You are not pocketing balls but waiting for an oppurtunity to run.

The only time I gamble in that game is when I bet the some guy watching that I can make the set last an hour or 2 hours. Just to provea point of how this game is very flawed. Then it becomes fun because I just go back and forth with the guy and I play the game to make it last as long as ever. That includes me not even trying to pocket balls.

This post tells most people everything they need to know about your game.

"same old shot back and forth" That statement is up there pretty high on the "The Top 10 Most Uninformed, Clueless and Untrue Statements on AZB, Ever"

Congrats!

Love those comments! (1-pocket is the same shot, back and forth)

I was playing some 14.1 and there was a league team that came in the room to practice. They asked the general questions and after a short explanation, one of the guys says, "That game is pretty easy. You can shoot any ball."

Sorry....thats not really on topic. But still....:D

Yea man I hear ya! I hate sex too cause it's just the same ol in, out, in, out. Jeeeeeeezzzzz so stupid!!!! Oh and I hate counting money. I wish I didn have any so it would be easier to count.

When you foul in one pocket, you have to spot one of your pocketed balls. If you didnt pocket any balls yet, you put a coin on the rail by your pocket meaning you owe a ball.

In 18-4, you basically start the game with 7 coins on your pocket. When you pocket a ball(s), spot it/them at the end of that inning until you have spotted 7 balls, then you got another 11 to pocket and gotta hold the dude to 4 balls.

It sounds different than it is. From the 4 perspective it sounds easy. "I'll play anyone like that"... Yea you will but you don't have to win. People like Alex and Scott can hold you. They make a great shot after the break and just run balls like crazy. You may never see the edge of a ball.

From the 18 perpective, you gotta think... "man I'm crazy". You just can't miss. It's like playing the 1p ghost. You cannot mess up at all or it can cost you the game. Some mistakes are ok and may only cost you a ball, but certain times in a game you cannot mess up. You also don't want it to be an uptable game. It's harder to run balls up there. He can bank 4 before you run 18.

In one pocket, I think the tighter pockets favor the weaker player unlike other games. Makes running balls harder so in the case, 18 could be harder than normal.

It really is outrunning the nuts.

Since we're on the subject. If you sink a ball in your opponents pocket...do you continue to shoot or is the inning over?
I plan to study, learn the moves and play 1 pocket this year. Stupid Game?...it's for me... I'm pretty ignorant:D

If you make a ball in their pocket it counts for them and it's their shot.

If you make a ball in your hole and their hole in the same shot, you both get a ball and you keep shooting.

If you make a ball in their hole and scratch the ball spots, you owe a ball and it's their turn.

If you make a ball in a random pocket, your own pocket and their pocket, you each get a ball and a ball spots. You keep shooting.

If you make a ball in all 6 pockets and scratch, you need to quit doing trick shots.

some additional information along these lines....

If you make a ball in their pocket and a ball in your pocket on the same shot, if the opponents ball went in their pocket BEFORE yours, you must immediately tell the opponent that he owes a ball. You only need to announce that in a voice loud enough for them to hear it, and you should quickly get down and continue shooting. Do not listen to anything your opponent is saying while you continue your inning. Once your inning is done, you need to then say "You don't owe a ball" in a matter of fact tone. Follow that up with "Why do you think you owe a ball" in a incredulous tone.

On the other hand, if you make a ball in your pocket and a ball in their pocket, if YOUR ball goes in before theirs... you must immediately stand up and announce.. "I do NOT owe a ball for that". Then continue shooting until your inning is over.

These are typically called the AYFN Rules (stands for Are you f%*@king Nuts) and this is the first time I have ever shared these rules with ANYONE here. Using these rules will usually help your game by about a ball or two, due to the mental turmoil being inflicted on your unsuspecting opponent.

You may go to ' one pocket.org ' and navigate thru. You will find on that web site everything about one pocket you need to know.

Actually, you'd only owe 6 balls. 12+4=16 ,8+8=16

Lol are you just an ass, dumb, stupid, or all three? The more you post the more I want to chew my arm off to tempt myself not to respond to it.

Since it's such a simple and ignornat game I'd like to openly challenge you to play some one-pocket if we ever come in contact with one another for any amount you'd like to wager. If you have the ability to high roll me I'll just go all in on the first set with whatever I can get my stupid little hands on and I guess you'll have to settle for bustin' me right off the bat. I'm sure with your superior billiards knowledge and skill that my amateur butt would just be donating cash to you, but I'd love to compete with such a champion as yourself even it if did cost me a fortune. I do ask that you PLEASE try to lengthen the time of each and every game to it's maximum limits even if it means NOT shooting for your hole! I promise NOT to even ask for a spot even though I'm sure I'll regret not taking one from such a great player as yourself.

I PRAY your rich and say yes to this offer and that your within close proximity to Springfield, Missouri. Hope to hear from ya soon hero! :p
