question about 3/8*10 pins

hi guys

hope some of the experts can help me out here: I have 2 cues, both with 3/8*10 pins, but here's the catch:
- my new z2 shaft does fit the billy webb (top one in the picture with the white collar), but does not fit the fanelli: i suspect that fanelli used a slightly non-standard 3/8*10?

with previous predator shafts it was possible to use sandpaper in the thread of the shaft and widen it ever so slightly to make things fit. unfortunately this does not work with the z2 shafts, which have a plastic thread (as opposed to wood in the previous version).

does anybody have an idea how to solve this, or what type of tap to order (and from where)? problem is that I'm located in the Netherlands, and we dont have cue builders here who can help me out.

That's because Mr. Webb uses a standard 3/8X10 and Mr. Fanelli switched to the new flat bottom screw. Take it to a cue repair person and he'll know what to do.

2 problems/questions remaining for me:
- being based in the netherlands (europe), we have no cue mechanics here (some guys who replace tips but that is about it)
- if I want to order a 3/8 10 tap: is there a specific type i need to order (and where), given the fact that the fanelli has the slightly different 3/8 10 thread?

I don't think it's a tap you need. Most likely, the inside diameter of the threads in the shaft are too narrow to fit on the Fanelli's pin. Notice how the bottom of the pin threads are flat? the V section of the shaft threads will hit there.
You'll need someone to bore or drill out the threads in the shaft very slightly, so that the inside diameter matches the minor diameter on the pin.
You may need a tap if the outside diameter of the Fanelli pin is larger, but that's unlikely.

The atlas style pin has a .308 minor , and the other has a .312 probably. Either boring or drilling the shaft will fix your problem . Seems the builder would have taken care of this ...:cool:;)
 
I forgot to add that the quality of craftsmanship on those particular shafts is less than desirable as I have had to fix a few of them with the problem above . I've seen more than a few that weren't tapped at all but sent to customers ... good luck ...:cool:;)
 
two questions

hi guys

sorry for all the questions, but so far I have had no luck with the 2 (!!) cue mechanics in our little country.

since I am in the US (NYC and Philly area) early June, I was wondering if there are any cuemakers in those areas who could fix the problem?

alternatively, I could order a tap from Atlas, but am not sure which tap to order (see http://www.cuestik.com/store/product.asp?DEPARTMENT_ID=129&ITEM_ID=5825)
