question about 3 foul rule again

I'm playing a league 14.1 match....i miss causing a foul. Now I am on two, since I had one previously. My opponent goes up pockets a ball, turns to me and asks me if I'm on 2 fouls, cuz he's not sure. Not wanting to be a jerk, I politely tell him yes. My question is, if I'm playing my match whether it be 14.1, or any other game for that matter, am I supposed to tell my opponent whether or not I'm on 2 fouls if he does indeed ask me cuz he's "not sure"?

If he's paying attention to the score, he should know. Both players should know the score totals at the end of each rack. He should have been able to look at your total score with your fouls removed and had an idea whether or not you were on two. Most people, I think, get lax on this from time to time. It's considered good sportsmanship to admit it but I don't believe you're under any obligation in an unrefereed game to admit it. Playing One Pocket there would also be an indication via the score.
I don't play the short rack games much any more, if at all, so I'm not sure there.

I think you should. The general idea is, if there is no referee for a match,
the players assume the responsibilities of the ref.
