I run a local 9 Ball Tournament at Fast Eddies in Bossier City Louisiana. I am very interested in trying to hold a 14.1 Tournament in the near future. I was wondering what are the basic tournament races to? Also what is the average time length on a 14.1 with say 25-32 players? Also can it be done on 8 foot tables or does it need to be 9 footers? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I would say on average 100 points is a standard race for a local level tourney, but nothing wrong with going to 75 if neccesary. Of course depending on your format of double elim or single elim. would come into play on the race. For a 100 point match you can figure 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours schedule time per match to be safe ( I use 2 hours ). Some sort of scoring device is definately needed, score beads or a counter. Keeping score on paper also works but not preffered. I don't see why you can't play on 8 footers if thats what you have available, why not. Depending on how many tables you will be using will determine the length of the tournament. A double elim with 32 players on 8-10 tables will need to be a 2 day event. Single elim with field of 32 can be done in 1 day on 8-10 tables but tight, start 2 hours earlier than usual.

Thanks for the advice its much appretiated I was thinking of making it a 2 day event, I want to try to get some people from surrounding areas the time to be able to plan for it in advance so I was thinking of trying it sometime around July so that I can get the word out to all interested.

Well as of now I have two places that i am considering holding it. First place is Fast Eddies I know the management WELL and would get playtime for free cause the manager knows she will make money on food and drinks. Only downfall is there are only 3 9 foot tables so I would have to do it on 8 foot tables and she will let me have 8 8 footers all day for two days if needed.

Second I was thinking about talking to Mr Schick at shick billiards and see what he says. They have all 9 Foot tables so I know that would be a better venue, first off because it wont be super crowded with younger people that are loud and obnoxious. Second of because people would get to Meet MrSchick and he may get some cue buisness out of it, May even talk him into playing who knows.

Like I said I can have it at Fast Eddies 100% sure. I still have to get over and throw the idea at Mr Schick and see what he says.
