Sometimes it's also the cue weight. The cue I just had made has an ivory butt cap and the weight I ordered was 14.5 ounces.
The butt cap is shorter and had it been a more conventional length cue butt and still been ivory, the cue butt would have missed
the cue butt weight I specified (14.5 ozs.). My cue butt actually weighs 412.25 grams and uses a 10.25 gram weight bolt. Bob Owen
hit the 10 ring dead center when he made my cue's weight.
Design obviously plays the most significant reason but there are times when an customer specifies an ivory butt cap and a light cue
weight that the size of the cue butt has to be adjusted. And ivory costs a lot more than Delrin or wood does so that can be another
consideration I suppose. Not trying to sound argumentative or anything like that. Just that sometimes the cue specs decide the cue
butt cap material and length, at least that's been my experience.
