Question about Gambling

I played a guy in a bar one night until 7 A.M. (the bar closed at 6 and they let us stay through cleanup). At 7, he told me there was another bar open 24 hours if I wanted to go. I went and played him until 9. At this time, he told me he was out of cash and his ATM card had dispensed its limit for 24 hours, but he would go to the bank since it was open if I wanted to play some more. He came back and I torched him again. With no cash on him, he said if I'd play some more I could come by his bar the next night and collect. I agreed as long as he covered my bar tab as well.
This reminds me of a time at a bar where i was playing way above my head and beating everyone for the cash, the bets were 20 a game but went up to about 40 a rack and the n with the one guy a 100 a rack. There was one guy who wouldnt stop playing me,he was juiced and one of those guys with the ego problem and has to be the best at everything and never gives up.He is down hundreds with no shirt on,drunk, money hanging out of his pockets and still wants to play but there is a problem,no quarters left in the bar and no key for the table so he says he is going to the car wash down the street and getting quarters, the bar says they are closing but he is infuriated and drunk and pissed, the only thing i could think to do was buy him a drink.

the money

i should have given more detials we doubled up twice he was down 950 and after the 700 he was playing on the owe system so i found out the bet was 350 the last set he wanted to play double or nothing i just couldnt justify playing for 6 hrs and breaking even being up 700 cash.

Game change = everything is off

If the game changes, ie spot or bet, I feel you can say no or quit anytime.
When the game changes to me it is like starting at 0-0. I hate the guys that play 50 a set, you win 100, they ask for weight for 100 a set, he wins one and gets mad when you quit. If the game changes you start over. Period.

no way

so the guy was on the owe system?? i would have been done after you lost the 350 set and he is wanting to double or nothing ya?? tell him he got his air barrel. call ya when he has more cash. if you like the game, you can start off at the higher bet or at the starting bet of 50, wich is the smart way unless you were stealing and are comfortable playing for more. besides, it burns like a mofo when you raise the bet for him and lose on an air barrel.:D

Because of most of the stories here....I play AHEAD sets! I'll say, lets play 4 ahead onepocket for "X"....and renegotiate after the set if needed. It always gives you a jumping off point. Like Grady sais...Make a game upfront you think you can beat me with because I'm not gonna ask to adjust....and you won't ask niether!..........RIGHT!?! :D

It used to be if you made a habit of quitting winner, the word spread like wild fire and your action simply dried up.

Always agree on terms before you start gambling.

If those terms change (spot) I agree than it is like starting over and the person ahead does not have to continue playing because he won the predetermined matchup. If you continue to adjust and play, I believe you have given up your "right" to quit ahead because you already agreed to adjust the matchup once.

Around here there aren't anymore 24/7 pool rooms so I think if you are gonna start gambling you best plan on closing the pool room down or not start if you're not gonna take the time to make every tinh clear before you start.

Discuss everything up front when betting. If not, there is always opportunity for disagreement. I played a strong regional player a few nights ago and everything was discussed up front; wager, length of session, spot, racking, when to post. This usually makes for a good action game.

Some pool players have some unwritten code that if the down guy wants to continue at the same game you should give him the chance to continue to play. If you quit because you had to leave or couldn't play late, give him a chance someother time to play the same game. I personally would never quit the game completely if he is willing to keep loosing at the exact same game.:D

excellent point, i always do this too. If its 11 and im going home at 1 i tell them that. I also notice someone who doesnt want to discuss everything up front, is usually out to screw you over, and when they get all vague and say "lets just play" blahblahblah, theres your warning right there that you got somebody who is going to be difficult when theyre down, or quit you when they are up....and just walk away if youre gettin bad feelins.
