Question about Sniper tips

I've been playing with a Moori medium and recently bought a cue and had a Sniper installed on it. I like it quite a bit but I'm used to (and prefer) the traditional look of the dark leather around the side of the tip where it meets the ferrule, and you can burnish/buff it out.

I thought I saw a discussion about Sniper tips coming this way. Can anyone give me info on this. The Sniper that came on my cue isn't like that. It almost looks chalked on the side (if this makes sense). Is there a different Sniper that comes this way or can the Sniper I have be burnished/buffed out to give it the traditional look?

Sniper tips and gray in color. You will have to color the edge with a permanent marker if you want it darker.
