question about the 5/16 14 thread?

good lord is nobody actually reading my posts????? lol

the whole point of this whole thing, as ive said a few times, is I want TO BUY A NEW SHAFT FOR MY SCHON AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE IT WILL FIT AND THIS WHOLE PROBLEM WITH THE JOINT PROTECTORS MAKES ME THINK I DONT HAVE A STANDARD SIZE 5/16 14 THREAD.

I dont want to just order a z shaft or a tiger shaft and then have to screw it on with a pair of pliers everytime i play.

so either i figure out which size pin my schon has and make sure i request that pin from the new shaft maker, or i order a blank and send it to a cuemaker and let them fit it for me.

LOL, try looking down at that lathe spinning all the time or the hum of that equipment, especially the routers. Makes comprehending everything around you a nightmare. :p , kind of like being in the zone shooting pool, where there is noise going on around you, but is somewhat softened & faint sounding, and you don't quite catch everything going on, because your in another world. :D only difference It carries on afterwards :p

try a strap wrench works much better the pliers, and leaves smaller marks on the shaft :D

You got the right idea, I would think buy a blank, and Have the shaft fitted if unsure of the pin, just to be safe. You can have it custom matched to your butt section at the same time. You can probably get the blank from the same source that matches it up in some cases.

LOL, That'll work. they are starting to call me "ol man" already as it is, sure grandpa's just around the corner :D .

I did not know there were two types of 5/16-14 threads. My thinking was he had a tight joint or a burr or something like that. My apologies.

> I had this same problem when I ordered a set of joint protectors over the phone from Bill McDaniel for my 1991 Schon. It took 3 tries via mail, and a personal visit to finally get what I was after. Mike would be a good guy to hook you up on a new Predator fitting. As far as making joint protectors fit, really the best way to find out all the particular idiosyncrasies of ANY screw is to have a machinist take a good close look at it with a magnifier, and use either a proper thread mike or thread wires. There are specific, carved in stone standards for all screw threads, and methods for measuring these. Evan from Schon is pretty crafty about changing things to keep his stuff proprietary and constantly improving. Tommy D.
