What Is The Purpose Of Points

They can be for style or function or both. If the point material is denser than the material it is being inlaid/glued into the point re-inforces the strength of the forearm whether they be vee, inlaid or butterfly. Usually, if the point material is less dense than the forearm there are no structural advantages, just cosmetics. Points on butts are for cosmetics only. Sharp pointed points are glued into a vee groove (traditional method) or inlaid (CNC method). Butterfly points are layered onto the forearm and then the forearm is turned/tapered. Full-splice points are a finger-joint (male and female points interlocked) and are usually very structurally sound. Hope that answers your question.

The best advice I can give you, as you are new to this and looking to learn, is to spend $50-$60 and get Chris Hightower's book,'From Tree to Tradeshow', it will explain all the stuff like this. And it will be there for you to look over it many times later. It's a very small investment, but with a really big return with the knowledge you'll gain. He pretty much takes you by the hand and walks you thru all the steps, and explains it all.
