question about wood for conversion

My cousins kids house blew up and I am looking at making a conversion cue for him. I have a cue already what I plan to do is take some of the wood and materials from his house and use it in the cue. I figure a few inlaid points and some windows or something. What I'd like to know is what kind of wood can't I use. I'm guessing pine is out.

One thing I did find is old hardwood floor. I'm guessing that will work. Any other ideas of stuff I can salvage from a house explosion that I could use in a cue. Let me tell you, there isn't much left. Mostly bricks burned wood and building materials. Most of it is gone but If I knew what to look for I might be more fruitful in my scavenging endeavors.

Any help on ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You could use pine for windows & other inlays, possibly points if they aren't too long. Old douglas fir from doors or framing would be better than pine, IMO. It'll give a bit more strength and hardness. That may not be an option if it was a newer house. If an older house, fir would almost certainly be used in framing and doors.

You can use any of the wood for inlays. You could build the entire butt out of the flooring by gluing a couple of pieces together to get the thickness you need, if you want to start from scratch. Show us some pictures when finished.
