Question for APA captains

A better question is;

WHAT IF YOUR LEAGUE OPERATOR REFUSES TO ENFORCE THE RULE?

The trick is, APA LOs have a fair bit of latitude as far as how they run their leagues. As long as it's not something egregious, they're allowed to fiddle with how things run in their areas.

And I imagine, the split-table thing is one of those minor-enough issues that LOs can ignore that rule if they wish. It simply does not directly affect the outcome of the matches - just how early/late they finish. I doubt contacting the national office would get you any satisfaction. :(

You would run into a similar problem if you tried the same thing in New York City. It's ridiculous. At least in NYC, a good portion of the teams comprise of bartenders who don't need to be awake until 2pm. Seriously, the whining in the NYC APA is astounding. Pretty much unbearable.

Like I said before, it's not an issue where i play about splitting up the table to play two matches at one time but we have ran into issues such as, I was the player that went to play on the other table and my scorekeeper from my team came with me, the whole other team came to watch our matchwn. I had to win 5 and he had to win 3 games. He won the first 2 games and was on the hill and then I won the next 5 games to win the match and when I went to shake his hand, they said i only won 4 games but i said no I won 5 and my score sheet same the same thing. Good thing I have a great memory and I showed all of them my 5 eight ball shots and then they agreed.

But that could be a problem with splitting tables, is the score keeping especially if the other team is completely trashed.

Then come back to Hoboken Jude :)

Seriously, if the commute weren't so bad, I would. I've had it up to my ears in NYC APA BS. So many of the "veterans" simply employ blatant bullying tactics to get their way.

My personal favorite RECENT story goes to my match last Monday. I was straight in on the 8-ball and my opponent stopped play to check to see if the 8-ball was frozen to the rail. I told him to delay me from shooting a routine shot was blatant sharking and his team immediately retorted citing their right to see if a ball is frozen which might be the dumbest thing ever said to me in a pool match. In fact, I told them as much.

There is an APA rule that says "The team manual states that you must split to a second table if you're not in the fourth match by official league time plus two hours unless no second table is available or bother teams agree not to split. There is no option, and sportmanship penalties can be assessed to teams that make an available table unavailable. ".
Do any of you enforce this rule? Last night the fourth match was about to start 3 1/2 hours after we started. It was late. I wanted to get done. The other team went crazy. The cursed at me. It was ridiculous, but I would not back down.
Everyone on my team has a real job. We are not a bunch of kids who want to drag ourselves to work the next day. No other team in our league agrees with me. The hate me for using this rule. I would like to hear from you about your opinions on this subject.
Also, what about the start times. A team has a 15 minute grace period to get a player to the table to start the first match. We constantly have teams that wander in 30 minutes late. Last night the other team had only one player, not the captain, ready to go 20 minutes after the official start time. I told her to put herself up and let's get going. She did but was unhappy about it. Again, your opinion please.

I didn't read the entire thread but I encountered the same issue. I politely asked to split at first and when they refused I pulled out the APA manual and read word for word the rules. They still weren't happy but ended up splitting. The funny thing is this only helps finish sooner which should be a positive thing. In the league I play in it is in-house so most of the time we have a nightly league rep to clarify disputes like this. The regional rep should be reachable by phone as well.

As far as the 15 minute thing goes, if your opposing team rolls in 30 minutes late they have forfieted the entire thing. That is the rules and unless they arrange with you ealier it isn't your fault if you choose to take the forfiet.

We never had a problem splitting tables so that is good.

We do have a couple teams that abuse the on time stuff often. 15,20,30 minutes late are no big deal to them. They are usually the ones with extended time outs as well. It's like every time out is a case of national security. . . pie charts , laser sights and overhead projectors come out etc. :) This is usually to coach like a 2-3 who can't execute that 7 rail masse kick shot in the first place.

But , you try and play nice as much as possible. IMO it's just 'league'. I tell them that if they are so serious about pool they should get out of league and start putting up real money playing Tournaments instead , get out of the handicaps altogether. Otherwise stfu and get on with it . . . but in a nice way. :D

Yeah, that's one thing that really annoys me, too - When you see two s/l 3s playing eachother, there are 13 balls on the table and one of them plays safe. I mean, GIVE ME A BREAK!!! THIS GAME IS GOING TO LAST 10 INNINGS AND HAVE NO LESS THAN SIX ATTEMPTS AT THE 8-BALL AND YOU'RE PLAYING DEFENSE IN THE SECOND INNING????

I tell the 3s on my team, "Pocket balls until I tell you to stop."
