Question for Bryan Mordt or Anyone with Knowledge

LOL, yeah the shultz routine is a funny one, I am from that generation also, so remember It well.

The Mp ivory from atlas is not pure white to me, as It seems more creamy in color. I have a picture of a butt cap in a thread that is made from it. The material machines alright with sharp tools. I have no problems boring holes in it, but It will melt down under heat. Found that out trying to cut slots in a piece one day.

Just alittle tip, when boring I like to mist a little water on It to keep the material, and cutting tools cool. It cuts better that way, and does'nt melt down on you as quickly.

It does however polish up really nice, but is kind of soft hitting in nature.

I know the discussion was'nt about the joint, but figured this was worth mentioning also- Some like the feel of It used in a joint from what I see, but others that like a harder hitting cue, may not like the softer feel of the material in a joint. Seems to have a sort of meucci feel to me.

It's softer nature, however that seems to make It more durable, and to me does have it's uses, depending on what feel your trying to obtain.

I do not see It being as white as what is in the picture in this thread, so don't know that It will match the color you are looking for, but It does have It's uses, and looks pretty decent. Worth having around the shop.

Bryan,

Are you willing to share what materials you used for the butt cap and the rings in this cue? I do not think it was ivory but I could be wrong. I am relatively new to building cues and I am having a difficult time finding material to inlay into my rings that match the butt cap.

I would like to hear any recommendations that anyone has to offer.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian:

I used grice which available from Prather's for the joint and butt cap. As for the slotted ring it was micarta (a nice match for grice).

Good luck!

Bryan
