Freddy,

I once gambled with a guy named "Semo" who said he was from Chicago. He was in Tacoma, WA for awhile. Taller, thin black guy, struck me as either a dealer or pimp type. He played decent, definitely no world beater, unless he was stalling. He was there for quite a while though, 2 or 3 months I'd say. He was always woofing at me to play some One Pocket, but at that time, I did not know how to play One Pocket, so I ended up playing him some last pocket 8 ball. I did well, and later on ended up learning to play One Pocket a little, but could never get back on him.

I thought he might have been a character you saw once in a while back in Chicago. I'd appreciate a little info/story if you do recognize the name. He was quite a character.

Interesting story from our gambling session: I had gotten to where if I made a ball on the break in that last pocket 8 ball game, I was usually out. Semo could run out if I started a run and I missed, but rarely got out off the break. He started soft breaking me so he'd get a chance to shoot (alternating breaks). He soft broke me one time, and only got two balls off the stack. One was right beside the stack, but almost dead straight in, with no angle to stun off and break balls off the pack. Something in me woke up, and I imagined what would happen if I jumped the cue ball at the object ball, instead of shooting it straight in.

Sure enough, I jumped the cue ball, the cue ball landed on top of of the object ball, which went straight into the corner pocket. The cue ball bounced off the object ball, and landed dead on top of the stack, scattering quite a few.

I ran out for the win, and he quit me after that game. Truly one of the memories I will always treasure. It's stuff like that that keeps me coming back to the table....
