Question for Jacoby cue owners

Got a new Jacoby in the other day and just wondering if the sound I'm hearing is normal for a Jacoby. The sound, at contact with the Q-ball, sounds like a tap or ping. It sounds different from all of my other 10 cues that have an assortment of tips. The brochure says it has a Tiger Everest tip so that may be what I'm hearing since I don't have another cue with a Tiger Everest tip to compare it to. In any event, it doesn't affect the play at all and it sounds kinda cool.

Also, it didn't come with much shape on the cue, probably a quarter or even flatter. I plan to shape it, but I would think that would cause the tap I'm hearing. Furthermore, it doesn't sound like a weight bolt issue, but I will ask Jacoby how to check that when they open.

Any thoughts?

Oops, correction, I should have said "I would not think a flat tip could cause a tapping sound."

Also, does anyone know how the wgt bolt system works for a Jacoby. I don't want to pry off the butt cap if it ain't suppose to come off.
 
I have 5 Jacoby cues. The bumper itself is threaded. You have to unscrew the bumber then unscrew the weight bolt. Should be fairly straight forward. No glues or tricks involved. Good luck!

Hold the cue a little closer to the computer so I can hear it!:rolleyes: ....lol.

Kidding. I have never had any strange sounds from my Jacoby so I can only assume its a loose weight bolt, or ferrule. That is about 80% of weird sounds. Jim Buss ( our cuemaker) tells me that is what is usually happening. Just an assumption. :)
 
long shot but could be bad installation of the ferrule. I botched a few ferrules in my day and those puppies pinged loud.
 
It's not the wgt bolt. Just took it out and re-installed. It was nice and snug.

Excuse the dumb question, but is there a way to tell if the ferrell is not tight? It feels nice and snug.
 
Is the sound like something loose or is it like a 'china tinking' sound...I've had some cues that will sound like that, the sound to me sounds like 'pink'...it doesn't do it on every shot either...

If you hear a click sound that is probaly the layered tiger tip they do that a lot some people like it some dont. Another choice is that jacoby used a melamine ferrule that also makes a diferent type of sound.Or maybe the third choice could be there metel joint they use it def is a harder hitting cue IMO.
 
Yeah, I'm guessing the tip is making the sound. No big deal, the cue plays fine and I'm sure as soon as Jacoby opens on Monday it will be confirmed.

Update:

I don't know what I did, but it's not making the tapping sound anymore. I shapped the tip and played again and sounds perfect. I got a feeling I did not have the joint tight the first time--i.e. operator error!

Anyway, this is a great cue!
